Notre-Dame #CFC100 DB Christophe Bouchard’s come back was critical in stopping Vanier’s vertical threat WR Samuel Emilus.

Vanier College Cheetahs (5-4) vs Campus Notre-Dame-de-Foy (8-1) The Campus Notre-Dame-de-Foy was rested and it was obvious from the get go. The defence, led by #CFC100 DB Christophe Bouchard who delivered 7 tackles and 1 for loss, shut the visitors down, while the offence’s first 3 appearances resulted in touchdowns. The Cheetahs secondary was challenged and DB’s #CFC100 Derek Acheampong, who finished with 1 tackle, #CFC100 Zack Fitzgerald, who registered 1 tackle and 1 interception, and #CFC100 Tyris Lebeau, who piled up 3 tackles, could not manage to keep the Notre-Dame aerial scoring combination out of the end zone. Combined, QB David Pelletier and WR Vincent Forbes-Mombleau, connected for 108 yards and 2 touchdowns, to bring the score up to 24-0 at the beginning of the second quarter. But the Cheetahs recovered a fumble, near the CNDF end zone, and the tide had changed to 24-14 by the end of the half. On the first drive of the third quarter, Vanier QB Dimitrios Sinodinos, who completed 26 out of 45 for 269 yards and 2 touchdowns, hit his main target SB Ryth Jean Giraud, who cumulated 54 yards and 2 touchdowns on 8 catches, for his second touchdown of the game to bring the score to 24-21.

Pelletier did not have his greatest performance, completing 9 out of 17 for 175 yards and 2 touchdowns, but the ground pounding duo of RB Luca Perrier, who rushed for 128 yards on 23 carries, and Gloire Muganda, who scored 2 majors with a total of 139 yards on 18 carries, tore it up and created havoc for the Cheetahs front seven, including #CFC100 Kean Harelimana, who was silent with only 4 tackles and a sack. The Vanier defence kept putting pressure on Pelletier and created a sack and 2 picks that helped their come back. A 78 yard kickoff return by RB Luca Perrier put CNDF on Vanier’s doorstep and RB Gloire Muganda, blew the door down with a 22 yard run for the major. Vanier kicked a last field goal and the final countdown was 30-24. With this tremendous team effort, the Campus Notre-Dame-de-Foy is headed to the Bol D’Or for the second year in a row and will face the André-Grasset Phénix, whom they defeated 36-26 in week 8.

Champlain-Lennoxville Cougars (7-2) vs Collège André-Grasset Phénix (7-2) With the return of WR François Rocheleau, the Phénix offence had a different beat. Pivot Pierre-Olivier Potvin connected with Rocheleau for a 65 yard touchdown for the only points in the first quarter. Rocheleau finished the day with 112 yards on 4 catches and the major, but Potvin’s outstanding performance, completed 26 out of 42 for 423 yards, 3 touchdowns and 1 pick, provided the push needed to defeat the defending champs. The Phénix defence did the rest, keeping the pressure on the Cougars’ passer, with 4 sacks and 2 interceptions. The leaders in QB takedowns, #CFC100 DE Philippe Lemieux-Cardinal, who delivered 3.5 tackles, 1 for loss and 2 sacks, and LB Yacine Audette, who registered 11.5 tackles, 2 for loss and 1 sack, with the help of #CFC100 LB Denver Coursol, who contributed 3 tackles and an important interception, created havoc for #CFC100 OT Patrick Davis and OL colleagues in trying to protect their young QB, Guillaume Renaud-Dumoulin. The Cougars running game was confined to a minimal 88 yards rushing and Renaud-Dumoulin, who compiled 298 yards and completed 17 out of 30 attempts, could not generate the momentum needed to bring down the high flying Phénix. The turnover battle was won by André-Grasset and subsequently, the game with a 34-25 score. A lot of credit to Head-Coach Tony Iadeluca and his assistants for the accomplishment, for taking their team to the Big Dance in their only their second year in the division. They will confront the team that provided their second loss this season in week 8. The championship game is scheduled Saturday at 3 pm in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu.
