Grasset’s defence pressured #CFC100 QB Dimitri Morand and the Phénix offence spread its wings to overwhelm the Géants. Champlain slipped in the first quarter, but pounced on the Titans afterwards. The Vanier passing game exploded on the Spartiates.

Cégep Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu Géants (4-5) vs Collège André-Grasset Phénix (7-2) The André-Grasset Phénix landed with decisiveness and jolted the Géants to take control of the game. Even though the Phénix missed a few opportunities, they were leading 18-10 after 30 minutes of play and exploded in the fourth quarter to take a 31 point lead that crushed the hopes of a comeback. The Saint-Jean defence was overwhelmed by the Grasset aerial show which was captained by QB Pierre-Olivier Potvin, who completed 21 out of 31 for 325 yards and 5 touchdowns, and supported by WR Kevin Mital who caught 6 for 117 yards and 3 touchdowns. The return of RB Samuel Makwanda, who rushed for 70 yards on 11 carries, and scored the first TD on a 19 yard run, created balance and kept the Saint-Jean defence on their toes. The ruthless Grasset defence contained QB #CFC100 Dimitri Morand and knocked him down 4 times and picked him off in a critical moment in the game. The Géants offence did move the ball pretty well, Morand completed 25 out of 42 for 378 and 3 touchdowns, but were unable to break the defensive wall pillared by LD Yacine Audette, who picked up 9 total tackles. In the third quarter, with a first and goal at the 1, which ended with a fumble recovered by the Phénix, the Géants deflated mentally. At this point of the game, the score was 35-10 and at the start of the fourth, the Phénix offence took flight and expanded to 48-30 victory. They move on to the semis and will host the Champlain Cougars next Saturday.

Cégep Limoilou Titans (4-5) vs Champlain-Lennoxville Cougars (7-2) After 15 minutes of play, the Friday night rumble looked exactly like the previous week with the Cougars behind 17-0. Limoilou took charge by attacking the supposedly weak secondary, compiling a total of 375 yards passing, but the Champlain defence created the momentum change and crashed the aerial show, specifically with 2 picks for 6 by the same player, DB Brendan Murphy. The offence took over from there and the unrelenting Cougars fought back to bring the score to 34-20 at the half. Guillaume Renaud-Dumoulin got the start at QB and finished the day with 19 completions for 297 yards and 3 touchdowns, which 2 of them went to WR Thomas Trottier. They were also able to run the ball with  #CFC100 OT Patrick Davis leading the charge for RB’s Thomas Bertrand-Hudon, who rushed for 100 yards on 9 carries, and Philippe Lessard Vézina, who piled up 98 yards and 2 majors. Limoilou was not able to do the same, the run game being their strength, the efforts of LB’s Dominik Brazeau and Michael Brodrique limited RB Gabriel Brault and colleagues to 159 yards. The convincing win of 60-27 keeps the season and the opportunity to repeat alive. They will face André-Grasset on their field to revenge the last regular season game, next Saturday.

Vanier College Cheetahs (5-4) vs Cégep Vieux-Montréal Spartiates (5-4) The weather conditions were different and did not limit the Vanier air attack that bombed the Spartiates secondary. The Cheetahs general, QB Dimitrios Sinodinos, completed 27 out of 42 for 277 yards and 2 touchdowns, one to WR Samuel Emilus, who racked up 120 yards and a rushing TD, and the other to SB Ryth-Jean Giraud, who piled up 117 yards. The running game, that combined 146 yards, built some momentum and created insecurity for the Spartiates defence. The Vanier’s linebacking duo, Darren Kyeremeh, who finished with 10.5 tackles, and #CFC100 Kean Harelimana, who compiled 7.5 tackles, limited the Vieux-Montréal running game to a mere 151 yards, while the secondary, pointed by DB’s #CFC100 Derek Acheampong and  #CFC100 Tyris Lebeau, stalled QB William Roy-Rodriguez to 118 yards and 1 touchdown. The Vanier receivers outran #CFC100 DB Benjamin St-Juste and #CFC100 DB Jérémie Dominique to win this rematch by a score of 32-17. They travel to Saint-Augustin next Saturday to face Notre-Dame for the semifinal.
