#CFC10 PREVIEWS & PREDICTIONS (4): Double the stakes in Kingston this weekend

Kingston is going to be a hot area for football this upcoming weekend as two key matchups dominate Week 4 of Previews and Predictions.

In the Ontario Varsity Football League (OVFL), both the the Kingston Grenadiers varsity and junior varsity squads will host the Ottawa Myers.  Winning streaks and undefeated records are on the line for all the squads.

Meanwhile, a pair of undefeated squads highlight the Ontario Football Conference (OFC) schedule this weekend.

Here are a few of the key games to watch this weekend:

VARSITY:

OVFL:

Jean Paul Cimankinda

OTTAWA MYERS RIDERS @ KINGSTON GRENADIERS (SATURDAY JUNE 11th @ 12:00PM, LOYALIST COLLEIGATE):

This matchup at noontime on Saturday could be a prelude to the postseason.

Offensively, Harry Robinson will be expected once again to lead the Grenadiers as he did last week scoring a touchdown and rushing for 116 yards on 24 carries in the team’s win against Oshawa.

Defensively, the Panthers have quite a few players who will be relentless in shutting down the Ottawa Myers Riders offence – namely Tristen Bell, Taylor Stalkie, Chad Stymest and Devon Parris.

If the Grenadiers are to win this game, its paramount they find a way to stop Myers Riders explosive offensive weapon Jean-Paul Cimankinda.  Last week, he tallied two majors and rushed for 81 yards on 7 carries in the team’s victory over Cumberland Panthers.

Additionally, the Myers Riders will count on receiver Owen Clement and #CFCOPC pivot Brayden Lassenba (15/23, 258 yards and three touchdowns last week) to carry the load on offence.

This will come down to whether the Grenadiers defence is successful at containing those three players.

PREDICTION: Ottawa Myers Riders 38, Kingston Grenadiers 24

Wolverines1

OFC:

SUDBURY GLADIATORS VS PETERBOROUGH WOLVERINES (SATURDAY JUNE 11th @ 5:00PM):

Two winning squads will battle it out this weekend with the goal of keeping their winning steaks alive.

For the Gladiators, they will rely on their offence led by pivot Chris Moutsatsos who will continue to create magic on the field with receiving duo Darcy Labelle and Graeme Stevens.

As for the Wolverines, Nick Clarkin will be expected to contribute on both special teams and offence.  Moreover, quarterback Ryan Astrom and Ryan McNamara will play key roles offensively while two-way star Alex Lew is expected to continue making an impact as he has all season.

Special teams may detemine this contest.

PREDICTION: Peterborough Wolverines 32, Sudbury Gladiators 28

Hono Iloki Myers Riders

JUNIOR VARSITY:

OVFL:

OTTAWA MYERS RIDERS @ KINGSTON GRENADIERS (SATURDAY JUNE 12TH @ 3:00PM, LOYALIST COLLEGIATE):

The second of two hotly contested games in Kingston this weekend between two perfect teams in OVFL junior varsity this season.

A trio of #CFCOPC standouts will be the ones to watch for on the Myers Riders.

James Keenan completed 16 passes in 24 attempts for 181 yards and three touchdowns for the Myers Riders in their victory against the Cumberland Panthers .  Hono Iloki will be his main target on offence while Malik Yusuf will anchor the defence.

As for the Grenadiers, the team hopes that Brock Vale will produce another top notch performance as he did in the team’s win over Oshawa as he scored two touchdowns and rushed for 151 yards on 15 carries.

Additionally, Tyrus Bromley will be counted upon to contribute to the Grenadiers offence.

We do think the road team in this one will escape with a win in this one.

PREDICTION: Ottawa Myers Riders 42, Cumberland Panthers 20
