#CFC10 PREVIEWS & PREDICTIONS (9): Rivalry replay this weekend

It’s inching closer to the end of the summer football season in Ontario.

With the Ontario Varsity Football League (OVFL) playing their final week of the regular season this weekend and the Ontario Football Conference (OFC) concluding their regular seaosn the next week, games are becoming more important.  Some teams are fighting to extend their gridiron season into the playoffs while others are competing for seedings and home field advantage.

We have previewed a few of the key games happening this weekend in both leagues:

OFC:

HAMILTON VARSITY TIGER CATS VS BURLINGTON STAMPEDERS (SUNDAY JULY 17TH @ 5:30PM):

Round two of a heated rivalry within a week highlights the Ontario Football Conference (OFC) schedule as the Hamilton Varsity Tiger Cats and Burlington Stampeders go to battle.

In last week’s game, the Stampeders won 35-23 over the Tiger Cats.

#CFC100 Dominic Mandalfino is the key to the Stampeders’ success.  Against the Tiger-Cats, he scored two touchdowns and rushed for 172 yards on 27 carries and was selected as the OFC’s Offensive Player of the Week.

As for the Tiger Cats, they look Jacob Patten Bohtelo for another strong game.  Despite the loss last week, he was a bright light for the team as he tallied two majors, amassed 148 yard son four receptions, added two field goals and two PAT’s.

Ultimately, the Tiger Cats want rematch redemption, but can the defence solve Mandalfino?  It will be close.

OVFL:

ESSEX RAVENS @ MISSISSAUGA WARRIORS (SATURDAY JULY 16TH @ 5:00PM, LOYOLA CATHOLIC SECONDARY SCHOOL):

The last week of the Ontario Varsity Football League (OVFL) is upon us and there is still major uncertainty about the varsity postseason picture.

A key matchup takes place in Mississauga as the Warriors take on the Ravens. Both teams along with the London Jr. Mustangs hold identical 4-3 records heading into their final games.

Offensively, the Ravens hope that Braeden Braccio continues to contribute to their success.  So far in 2016, he has 980 yard on 141 receptions and eight touchdowns. No doubt that pivot Nick Langley will go to Braccio often in this game.

Defensively, the Ravens are led by Daniel Metcalfe who has a batted ball, five solo sacks, five assisted sacks as well as 41 solo and 26 assisted tackles this summer.

Brennan Moss highlights the Warriors offence – in 2016 he has rushed for 628 yards on 119 carries and scored a touchdown.

With such a pivotal game, the Ravens will pull out a victory on the road.

PREDICTION: Essex Ravens 40, Mississauga Warriors 17

Vayi Yomo

OVFL:

TORONTO THUNDER @ CUMBERLAND PANTHERS (SATURDAY JULY 16TH @ 2:30PM, MILLENIUM FIELD):

Both the Toronto Thunder and Cumberland Panthers look to end their regular season on a high and position themselves well for the postseason.

The marquee part of this contest is the battle between the top #CFCOPC receivers on each team.  Kiondre Smith leads the Thunder with 451 yards on 23 carries as well as three touchdowns while Kevin Victome 424 yards on 29 receptions and six touchdowns.

The Thunder have an added option with Vayi Yomo who has rushed for 634 yards on 81 carries and five touchdowns this summer.

This could result in a high scoring affair.

PREDICTION: Cumberland Panthers 36, Toronto Thunder 34
