#CFC100 Centennial Coyote standout commits to Dinos

Dinos pick up another Calgary commit.

The University of Calgary has always been in the sight-lines of #CFC100 Tristan Rice, a left tackle from Centennial High School, and now he will officially be a Dino after signing his letter of intent on Oct. 30.

#CFC100 Rice is a member of the Centennial Coyotes (Alberta Schools Athletics Association). The 6’4, 270lbs Calgarian chose the University of Calgary because he believes it is a top level program that will take him to the next level, professional football.

“Another reason I chose UofC is because of the huge support I get from family friends and coaches. The academic fit was also a key factor in my choice and I believe that the theatre program at UofC is the best fit for me,” he added.

When asked about his thoughts on the coaching staff, Rice had nothing put praise. “I strongly believe that they are some of the best coaches in the CIS. That is another reason I chose the Dinos is because I’ll be getting the best coaching,” he said.

On Facebook, Rice thanked his family, friends and coaches for helping him get to the U Sports level. He also said he was excited to announce his official singing with the Dinos.

Rice has played for the South Calgary Colts at peewee, bantam and midget level. In 2015, he was a member of Team Alberta U16 squad that played in the International Bowl in Dallas, Texas. He helped his team dominate Team USA with a final score of 42-0. He also played with Team Alberta U18 and has been invited to play in the International Bowl with Team Canada.

In his eight year career, he has been given many accolades. In 2011, he was awarded with a defensive lineman award during his time in the Peewee Colts. Two years later, he was recognized for his offensive prowess and was given an offensive lineman award with the Bantam Colts. In 2015, he was a Calgary Midget Football Association all-star. In his last year of midget, he was recognized with the best lineman award.

Matt Berry, a defensive coordinator for the Dinos, is very pleased with the team’s latest commit. He said, “Tristan is a hard worker and great leader for his high school team. He is an aggressive player that will develop into a very good lineman at the CIS level.”

He added that, “It is great to have him and his family join the Dinos organization. Another top Calgary is saying home to help build our future success.”
