CFC100 commit has rich history with Golden Bears’ coaches

Alberta adds a top local commit to their 2019 class.

When it came to his future, CFC100 linebacker Jake Taylor from Salisbury Composite High School was careful to examine all angles of recruitment. In the end, he found that the University of Alberta Golden Bears had checked off all his boxes.

“The overall appeal was more than football. The University of Alberta has an incredibly high amount of academic all-Canadians,” he said.

“The education I will receive is unparalleled in Canada. I plan on taking economics or business…by staying local I will be able to meet and work with the people that will hire me full-time as soon as I finish my time playing football.”

Alongside academics, Taylor was drawn in by the scholarship offer. He said that the current offer he received cannot be exceeded by the current guidelines set out by U Sports.

Back on the football front, Taylor is thankful for the opportunities the sport has presented to him. “Football is a great sport and has allowed me to grow as a man both on and off the field,” he said. “The Golden bears football program has put a huge effort into signing a great 2019 class and I am very happy to be a part of it.”

Taylor, who is from Beaumont, Alberta, is quite familiar with the Golden Bears’ coaches, who he called fantastic. “I have been in camps growing up with the Bears for years. Head Coach Morris has always been at games since I was little. Coach Morris’s son Trevor and I have played against each other for years and coach has known me for a long time,” he said.

He added that the strength coach, Coach Wright, is a friend of his father’s who has helped him grow physically. Coach Dupont, the defensive back coach, and Coach Noonan, the linebacker coach, has coached Taylor at both camps and on all-star teams.

“I have gotten to know them very well,” he said. “The whole staff are men that I can trust and know will always have my best interest as a player and a person now and into my adult life.”

Taylor’s career begins in 2007 with the Leduc Bobcats (LDMFA). After three years with the team he joined the Leduc Wildcats (LDMFA). From 2013 to 2015 he was a member of the Leduc Ticats (LDMFA). He also played in the Alberta Summer Games and the ABC Border Bowl during that time. He has suited up for the senior edition of the Salisbury Sabres (MEHSFL) since 2016.

In his 12-year career, the 6’2, 210lbs SAM linebacker and strong safety has collected quite a few accolades. He has been named as a MVP, a defensive MVP and was once crowned the ‘hardest worker.’ He is a top 100 prospect in Alberta and a member of the CFC Alberta All-Star team. He was also recognized an elite prospect in Alberta.

“I would definitely like to thank CFC and their staff for helping raise my profile across Canada and would like to thank all the Canadian universities that have reached out to me and believed in my ability,” Taylor said.

“I wish you all the best of luck and will see you on the field in the upcoming seasons.”

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
