CFC100 commit returns to Canada, joins Carleton

Ravens welcome a Canadian high schooler playing in the United States to their Class of 2017.

Darius MacKay II, a centre from Woodberry Forest High School, is coming back to Canada and what better place to reintroduce himself that with the Carleton Ravens at the U Sports level?

When MacKay II was making his decision, it all boiled down the coaches. β€œI really liked the coaching staff and the team culture inside the locker room. The program is going in the right direction and it’s something I wanted to be apart of,” he said. β€œI can’t wait to work with the coaches. They are some of the smartest coaches I’ve been around. I think I can develop into a very good player with their coaching.”

Originally from Coquitlam, British Columbia, he has seen his fair share of coaching staffs. In 2012, he played with the Terry Fox Ravens (BC High School Football League) in Port Coquitlam, BC. The following year, he joined the St. Thomas More Collegiate in Burnaby, BC. After two years, he moved to Virginia to play with the Woodberry Forest Tigers, a prep school in Woodberry Forest, Virginia.

Holding dear to his #65 during his high school career, MacKay II has also worn #55 and #58 while playing on three on Team BC squads. In 2013, his team won the Red River Cup. In 2014-2015, the team played in Washington. Last season, Team BC beat Team Nevada in a match in Las Vegas.

Standing at 6’4, 275lbs, the centre and guard is interested in taking either history, communications or journalism in university.

With an impressive career under his belt, Mackay II has quite a few people to thank for his success. β€œI just want to thank everyone who has supported me in the process, my parents, siblings, aunts, uncles, grandparents,” he said. β€œ(and) all of my current and former teammates, there are too many to name, for pushing me day in and day out.”

He added that he wishes to thank all of his coaches and trainers that have helped him in the process: Eddie Ferg, Karen Lopez, Mark Beswick, Vincent Flamia, Mitchell Bosch, Clinton Alexander, Brian Stephenson to name a few.

With Ottawa waiting in the distance, MacKay II is ready to get back to Canada. He said, β€œI’ve enjoyed my time with the process and can’t wait to be a Raven next season.”
