CFC100 DB and CNDF OL join Laval Rouge et Or

Laval welcomes two Québec commits.

While one will be staying home and one will be heading north, both Nicholas Guay, an offensive lineman from the Campus Notre-Dame-de-Foy and CFC100 Zack Fitzgerald, a defensive back from Vanier College will be donning the Rouge et Or in September.

Nicholas Guay will have many familiar faces in the Laval Rouge et Or locker room. He is one of several Notre-Dame du CNDF (RSEQ Division 1) players to join the 2016 Vanier Cup winners. “It’s a kid’s dream to play for the Rouge et Or,” the product of Québec City said. “The school is located near my house.”

But, it wasn’t only proximity and hometown pride that drew him in. “They have the best coaching staff,” Guay said. “In no other school would I have he opportunity to be coached by Carl Brennan, the best offensive line coach in Canada.”

The 6’3, 285lbs future civil engineering student played with L’ Arsenal de l’Académie Saint-Louis (RSEQ) for five years before spending three years in cégep. In 2014, he won a ‘Recrue par excellence’ with Le Notre-Dame. In 2015, he was a league all-star.

Zack Fitzgerald has seen many teams in his nine-year career, but now it’s time to head to the province capital to test the waters of the U Sports league. “Its facilities showed me everything I need to be successful and I always wanted to live the experience of playing else where than home,” he said, adding that he is originally from Pierrefonds, Montréal.

Like his new teammate Guay, Fitzgerald shares similar sentiments about the coaching staff. “I believe the coaching staff has the experience level to make me become the best I can be,” he said.

In his career, the 5’9, 175lbs athlete has played with the Vanier Cheetahs (RSEQ Division 1), Les Faucons d’école secondaire Dorval-Jean XXIII, the Northshore Lions (North Shore Football League) and with Amabaie football. He ha also represented his province on Team Québec and his country on Team Canada. In 2011, he was a provincial finalist with the Lions. In 2013, he won a national championship with Team Québec. While with the Cheetahs, he was given all-stars honours in his rookie year. He will be looking to teach others such athleticism after learning to become a psychical education teacher.
