#CFC100 DE Durodola “felt the love” from a couple CIS schools

#CFC100 Yusuf Durodola is a great athlete and a good football player with a high upside. He plays for his high school squad, the Downsview Mustangs in the Toronto public league, Tier 1, and also represents the Metro Toronto Wildcats, which is his summer team.

It was gratifying for Yusuf when the Wildcats beat a particular team last season.

“Highlight of the summer season was when we beat Oshawa,” Yusuf says. “We lost to them earlier in the season. Everyone thought we would lose, but the last two minutes were extraordinary, defence came through in the clutch.”

The main U Sports (CIS) schools that he’s considering are Toronto, Wilfrid Laurier, Ottawa and Carleton. Yusuf has enjoyed the recruitment process up to this point.

“Got tons of looks but felt the love from Ottawa and U of T in particular,” he says.

As for influences, there have been various individuals who have influenced him in some fashion.

“Russ Hoff, my Mom, Dad, Ms. Polly Lawrence-Hopper and my principal, Mr. Johnson: they all influence me to be the best I can on and off the field,” Yusuf says.

The Fox 40 PC (formerly OPC) experience was invaluable for Yusuf.

“OPC was extremely fun, it taught me that everyone is good and it comes down to who makes less mental errors,” he says. “OPC helped me get my name out. OPC will help me get a lot more looks as it did last year.”

Having the distinction of being among the 100 high school players on the #CFC100 list is “pretty cool” for Yusuf. “But it doesn’t change anything, I still have to grind because there is always someone better than you,” Yusuf says.

He was caught off guard when he first learned that he was on the list.

“I was surprised that I was ranked,” he says. “I was sleeping and I woke up to a close friend (Sevion Dacosta) saying I was ranked.”

There are certain areas of his game that he wants to improve for the upcoming season.

“Be in the gym every day like I usually am but try to reach 235-240 weight range, and also make my first step a lot quicker and explosive,” Yusuf says.
