CFC100 Holy Cross Crusader now a Thunderbird

UBC is bringing in another BC commit to their 2017 class.

CFC100 Cole Barron, a linebacker from Holy Cross Regional High, doesn’t have very far to reach his new school, the University of British Columbia.

β€œThe sights and sounds of campus, the opportunity to play under one of the most successful coaches in the U Sports league and to be able to play in the CANWEST division in my hometown was all I needed,” the product of Surrey, BC said.

β€œAfter meeting with Head Coach Nill in the Football Academic Centre, meeting some of the other coaches and touring the campus, I was sold,” Barron added. β€œThe way Coach Nill has a history of leading his teams to national championships and the number of players under him that have had opportunities to play at a professional level, is exactly the type of opportunity I was looking for.”

The Holy Cross Crusader (BC High School Football Association) has nothing but praise for his new coaching staff. However, it stems further than admiration for the Coach Nill’s prestige. β€œThe pedigree of Coach Nill speaks for itself, but I really like how he is a straight shooter and tells you exactly what he wants and needs out of his players,” Barron said.

β€œI am very excited to play and learn under him. I am also excited to work with Coach Tracey, Coach Hoople and especially Coach McCullum.”

Paul Orazietti, the team’s recruitment coordinator and special teams coach, said “Cole was a provincial all-star at the AAA level in BC this year. He is a heavy hitter and we are very excited to have him on board for 2017.”

The 6’1, 210lbs athlete has been playing football since the age of seven, beginning with Cloverdale community football. Once he reached high school, he ended his time with the community league and committed full to playing high school ball. The potential science student was a BCHSFL Top Grade 11AA in 2015 and an AA defensive MVP and all-star in 2016.
