CFC100 switching to track, joins Laval

CFC100 Mathieu Massé-Pelletier has committed to the Laval Rouge et Or, but not for the sport you think.

Massé-Pelletier was originally going to the University of Massachusetts for football. But when he was sidelined with a concussion during the high school season, he had a tough choice to make.

“I already had a good history of them, and the doctor told me if I wanted to stay health and perform in medicine like I want to, I had to give up football,” he says. “Track and field is my second sport and love. With my circumstances, I’m glad I get to do it for many more years.”

This isn’t to say that Massé-Pelletier will never return to the gridiron. It may simply be under different circumstances. “I am not thinking about coaching for the next few years, but I’ve done so in the past, and I’m not opposed to it,” he says. “I love working with kids and if time allows it, I’d be glad to.”

Entering his second year of track, Massé-Pelletier is relatively new to the sport. “I am hoping to continue to progress at Laval while learning to hammer throw. I also hope I will be able to contribute to the team’s success in my first year,” he says. He adds that he chose the school because it offers a great combination of academics and athletics while being close to home. He is planning on applying to medical school next year.

Massé-Pelletier is from Québec City, Québec. He played football for ten years with the Mini Rouge et Or, Le Blizzard du Séminaire St-François (RSEQ) and the Québec Elites. He also played for the Woodberry Forest Tigers in Woodberry Forest, Virginia. Standing at 6’2, 225lbs, he lined up as a middle linebacker.
