  • After a tough loss to Weyburn a week ago, things were looking bleak for Central’s championship hopes in the 5A South Rural League. Logic said they had little hope of competing with Yorkton after losing 60-34 to the Raiders in the semifinals a year ago, but instead the Cyclones shocked the province handing Yorkton their first shutout loss at home in 23 years. The 26-0 victory creates an interesting scenario down the stretch where the Cyclones can still capture the first seed in the playoffs if Yorkton is able to bounce back with a win over Weyburn. Either way, it’s a massive confidence boost for Central who know that if they meet Yorkton again in the playoffs, it’ll be the Raiders who have to hop on the highway next time around.

  • Saint-Joseph kept stride with Dalbe-Viau with another convincing 37-13 victory over Roger-Comtois to keep their undefeated record intact. If you look at the standings, it appears that the Aigles d’Or and Vert et Or are on a collision course for the Bol d’Or, but the competitive Juvenile DII playoffs are always full of landmines, so both teams will need to keep their head on a swivel.
  • College Laval helped their playoff chances immensely this week with a key 16-15 victory over Deux-Montagnes to give themselves sole possession of second place in the West Conference. Outside of the top two front-runners, the field is wide open in Quebec, and it’s going to come down to who’s playing their best ball heading into the playoffs. Don’t forget Saint-Joseph only defeated the Maraudeurs 16-7 earlier in the season, so they are still very much alive in the championship discussion if they can continue their run of form.
