Did somebody order a new number one team in the nation?
The easy part is climbing the rankings, but the hard part is holding onto the number one spot once you take the throne. It was time for College Bourget to step aside with newcomers Dalbe-Viau continuing their magical run in Juvenile DII with an impressive 34-20 victory over the Voltigeurs. This is the first year the Aigles D’Or have competed in DII, and they’ve wasted no time shaking up the hierarchy now tied for first place in the West Division alongside College Laval and College Bourget. They dropped a tight contest 30-28 earlier in the year to College Laval, which gives the Maraudeurs the upper-hand in the rankings, but don’t forget College Bourget also got the best of College Laval two weeks ago. You figure out who the true favourites are right now in Quebec, because we are just trying to enjoy the show.

We had another top ten program fall in Manitoba where Sturgeon Heights proved they belong in the conversation for top program in the nation with a definitive 52-14 victory over Springfield. This is the first every regular season loss for Springfield since the inception of their program in 2019, and the Huskies weren’t interested in leaving any doubt about who the better team is right now. They’ve been on a ridiculous pace to start the year outscoring their opponents 158-21 through four games, and could possibly take over the top spot in the province this week with an impending slugfest between Vincent Massey and newly ranked Miles MacDonnell. Both teams struggled to find a way past John Taylor this season, who deserve a ton of credit for their efforts despite dropping both games. However, it does provide a measuring stick, and it looks like there’s not much separating the Vikings and Buckeyes on the field.
Another shocking result came out of New Brunswick where Mathieu-Martin asserted their dominance in the province with a dominant 38-3 victory over formerly ranked L’Odyssee. It’s one thing to get the job done in the regular season, but there’s a good chance these two will meet again down the road come playoff time, so they’ll have to make sure they sprint through the finish line before celebrating.
CFC100 CLASS OF 2024 RANKINGS
Lastly we had a couple close matchups in BC with John Barsby nearly upsetting second ranked Robert Bateman falling by a score of 38-34. John Barsby have been one of the toughest teams to face throughout the preseason, and could make an appearance on the rankings eventually if they can find a way to persevere when it matters most. Argyle were the other program that gave Ballenas a run for their money, but they couldn’t find a way to close it out with the Whalers prevailing 22-15. The Coastal Division is shaping up to be an absolute dogfight, and we can’t wait to see who climbs their way to the top by the end of the regular season.
