CFC25 Small School Rankings WEEK 1: Which program will reign supreme in 2024?

TOP HEADLINES

  • Weyburn keep their place at the top of the mountain to begin the year, but there’s plenty of contenders ready to snatch their throne. The Eagles began the year with a huge test in an exhibition match against Miller, who have won three straight 6-A Saskatchewan championships, and the results were as expected with the Marauders walking away with a 30-7 victory. The question is how will they utilize the experience as they search for another 5-A provincial championship this season?

  • Weyburn have a familiar challenger joining them in the South Rural League with Greenall transferring from the Regina Stewart Division. The Griffins are off to an explosive start after a 92-6 victory against Estevan, but they are going to need to dig deep if they want to avenge their 33-7 loss at the hands of Weyburn in the provincial playoffs last year.
  • Holy Trinity Academy have set the tone early this year in Alberta with a pair of demolition victories against St. Joseph and Medicine Hat by a combined score of 98-17. The Knights also took a trip down to San Diego where they roughed up Coronado High School 40-0, so it’s safe to say after a blazing start to the season that they will be one of the top challengers to watch on the CFC25 Rankings.
  • Saint-Joseph have kept their winning streak alive in Quebec with a pair of important wins against College Laval and Estacades to begin their hunt for back-to-back Bol d’Ors. Dalbe-Viau are looking to retain the title after a heartbreaking loss in the semifinals last year, but will need to wait until October 18th to test themselves against the reigning champs.

  • Fort Frances have picked up where they left off last season in Manitoba with a 24-6 victory against John Taylor, but they’ll be keeping a close eye on a new contender. Portage Collegiate opened the year with a massive 34-6 win over Beaver Brae, and will be hoping to make their presence felt in the AAA division after dropping down a tier following a disappointing 0-7 campaign in the AAAA South West division a year ago.
