CFC27 Update (7): Heading into East-West, where do programs stand?

It that time of year again where canadafootballchat.com ranks all 27 U Sport program’s recruiting classes. Every week, CFC will be updating total points and average points per player. All U Sport teams are fully up to date with the U Sport Commits page.

Heading into the East-West recruiting blackout period from May 7-May 14, 2018, let’s recap who is standing where with their recruiting class.

The Calgary Dinos still occupy the number one spot of total points of 1029 and 42 recruits who have committed to their program. With 13 CFC100s signed, the Dinos close another stellar recruiting class. Following them is Guelph with 9 CFC100s and sits at 891 total points and 37 recruits. It will be interesting what happens now with Head Coach Kevin McNeil leaving the program for other opportunities. Will the class stay intact?

In third spot is Montreal with 31 recruits – 9 CFC100s/CFC60s and 856 total points. we don’t see this changing much. Western has 803 total points and 31 recruits – 8 CFC100s and Laval closes the top 5 with 801 total points and 22 recruits – 10 of those being CFC100s/CFC60s.

Regarding the average points per player top 5 ranking, Laval takes over with 36.41 points and lands top spot. Manitoba stays in second place with 32.94 points – those lineman get some serious points, especially when most of them are CFC100s. UBC sits in third spot at 28.96 points per player. Montreal follows with 27.61 points per player and Western closes out the top 5 with 25.9 points on average per player.

As for the rest of the list, there has been some slight movement, but we are pretty sure that most programs have either finished altogether or have the majority of their class in place for the 2018 season. There may be a few late editions once the blackout period ends, but they will be few.

Teams are ranked by two different categories: (1) TOTAL POINTS and; (2) AVERAGE PER PLAYER

CFC employs a point system based on the recruits declared in the recruiting class on CFC:

  • Players are rated based on (a) CFC100/60 rankings (b) 4-star ranking (c) 3-star ranking (d) NR
  • POINTS NOT ALLOCATED to (a) Transfersthey would have acquired points in their original class year; (b) International commits who ONLY played outside of Canada prior to U Sports commitment
  • CFC27 is updated approximately once per week (there can be a lag of a few days behind the U Sports commit list)
  • Teams are not ranked until they have a minimum of 5 players on their commit list
