#CFC50 Game of the Week PREVIEW (SK): Top two teams in Regina ready to battle it out under the lights at Mosaic Stadium

CFC50 Leboldus Golden Suns vs. Miller Marauders

Friday, October 6th at 7:30pm, New Mosaic Stadium in Regina.

It’s the top two teams in Regina, battling it out for the right to be the conference’s best. It’s the 3-0-1 Leboldus Golden Suns, the premier program in Saskatchewan taking on the underdog, 3-1 Miller Marauders. The winner of this matchup will slide into first place in the Schwann Conference.

#CFC50 Leboldus has been unable to completely dominate teams in their conference like years past, but still haven’t lost a game. However, I believe this an indictment of the quality and improvement of the Schwann conference, as opposed to a weaker Suns team.

Leboldus still has one of the top quarterbacks in the nation in Josh Donnelly, who has been superb this season, along with arguably the best class of 2018 receiver in Dominique Dheilly.

That connection has been lights out for the team so far, with Dheilly currently leading the conference in receiving yards with 458 on 26 receptions. Fellow pass-catcher Ben Camplin has formed a dynamic duo at receiver for the Suns. Camplin is fresh off 8 catch, 165 yard performance against Winston Knoll in week four.

While Josh Donnelly continues to prove why he’s one of the most sought after recruits in western Canada everytime he steps on the field. The senior quarterback is averaging 293 yards per game, with 7 touchdowns and only 1 interception.

Leboldus has been unable to completely dominate teams in their conference like years past, but still haven’t lost a game. However, I believe this an indictment of the quality and improvement of the Schwann conference, as opposed to a weaker Suns team.

“I think as a whole the Schwann conference is very competitive and really any team can win any week,” said Donnelly.

The Suns are hoping their young team will continue to adjust to the speed of play of the Schwann conference.

“I truly believe we are improving every week. Obviously, we need to continue to work and improve every day but I think the way we’ve been going, as long as we keep that up we’ll be successful. I think it’s just about fine tuning everything. We have our concepts down, now it’s just about the details,” he said.

A week two matchup between Miller and Leboldus resulted in a 21-7 victory for the Suns.

Stopping the run will be key for the Marauders, as Laurauche Akaffou had a field day against Miller in week two. He rumbled his way to 118 yards on 17 carries while finding the endzone twice.

Marauder quarterback Luke Hornung has thrown the ball well so far this season, but struggled against Leboldus, throwing for only 50 yards, and two interceptions. A better performance from Hornung will be needed in order for the Marauders to take down the Suns.

Donnelly spoke about the importance to get the offense going, in a must win game for the Suns.

“The key last time we played Miller was our defense. They had an outstanding game, holding them to only 7. They have lots of athletes on their offense and although we are very confident in our defense, we can’t expect them to only hold Miller to seven (points) again. That being said, I think the key to success for is this week is executing on offense, putting points up and ultimately, taking the pressure off of our defense,” said Donnelly.

“Miller is a great team and has proved a lot this year. Being as it is their first year in our conference. I anticipate that our game with them is going to be very competitive and very exciting,” said Donnelly.

With alot on the line, expect a hard fought battle tonight in Regina.
