#CFC50 High-school (juv. div. 1/1b) RECAP: [4]: Séminaire Saint-François Blizzard is king of the hill

The undefeated Blizzard aim for a perfect season, two years in a row. And around the league, the RB’s carried a lot of footballs to help their teams win close games.

Académie Les Estacades (1-3) vs École Secondaire Roger-Comtois Patriotes (0-3) With a 25-24 win in overtime, Les Estacades get their first win of the season. The Estacades QB, Thomas Roberge, completed 15 out of 30 for 215 yards, 2 touchdowns and 1 interception. His primary target, #1 Xavier Sanchez, caught 8 passes for 180 yards and the 2 touchdowns. The Pats offensive threat, QB/RB Vincent Richard, completed 17 out of 33 for 134 yards and rushed 18 times for 85 yards and 2 touchdowns, but his 3 picks were devastating in a close game like this one. The hero of the game goes to kicker Justin Éthier of the Estacades with 2 field goals to win, in a game that concluded in overtime by the score of 25-24.

École Sec. Curé-Antoine-Labelle Loups (1-2) vs École Secondaire Triolet Harfangs (3-1) With only 21 yards difference in total offensive yards, these two teams played their hearts out. The Curé-Antoine-Labelle defence kept the Harfangs QB/RB, Lukas Boulanger, to a minimum passing yards with 158, but had a difficulties stopping the run. Boulanger rushed for 112 yards in 13 carries including 2 touchdowns and the Triolet RB, Antoine Béchard-Marinier, piled up 91 yards in 13 carries. The young Loups QB, Xavier Tremblay, had an average day with 17 completions out of 28 attempts for 180 yards, 3 touchdowns and 1 interception, which did not help his RB, John-Nicky Giraud, 129 yards on 13 carries, with the passing threat. The Loups offence did get some help from the special teams with a punt-return for 6 by receiver Ray-Jay Alcena. But not enough to defeat the now, more confident Harfangs team who is tied for second place with this 41-38 gain over the Loups.

Saint-François DB #7 Vincent Delisle

Séminaire Saint-François Blizzard (4-0) vs Collège Notre-Dame Cactus (3-1) The clash of the weekend in the juvenile leagues and the Blizzard displayed their dominance in defeating the Cactus 42-20. We all knew that this was going to be a defensive battle and who was going to stop the top two RB’s of this division. Well, Notre-Dame did slow down the Blizzard’s passing game, QB Raphael Latulippe completed 7 out 16 for 244 yards, 1 for 109 yards for a touchdown, and were helpless against the legs of RB Kalenga Mugunda, who rushed for 253 yards on 22 carries and scored 5 touchdowns. His counterpart, Cactus RB Théodore Seaborn, was kept to a minimal 103 yards, and the Saint-François defence settled this one at 42-20 to remain the only undefeated team.

Saint Jean-Eudes RB #21 Émile Malenfant

Saint-Jean-Eudes Condors (2-1) vs Académie Saint-Louis Arsenal (1-3) The Arsenal offence came up short and lost this one by 3 points. The Académie Saint-Louis QB/RB Charles Goulet, completed 12 out of 23 for 188 yards, 2 touchdowns, 2 picks and score a rushing TD. How those turnovers hurt in a tight confrontation like this. The Condors defence kept the Arsenal RB, Jacob Verret, to a mere 81 yards and out of the end zone. The Saint Jean-Eudes running game managed the clock while putting up 24 points and with help of the special teams, closed this one at 30-27.

Séminaire Saint-Joseph Vert et Or (3-1) vs École Sec. Pointe-Lévy Corsaires (2-1) The Vert et Or defence, with 4 sacks, was able to slow down the Corsaires’ superman, QB/RB Adrien Guay who only completed 13 out of 34 for 203 yards with 2 touchdown passes, no interceptions and a mere 62 yards rushing. The Saint-Joseph’s QB/RB, Charles Cossette who completed 13 out of 19 for 182 yards and rushed for 28 yards including 2 majors, was able to generate enough points and minimize the mistakes to beat the Corsaires 32-14.

Polyvalente Deux-Montagnes Centurions (0-4) vs Collège Laval Maraudeurs (3-0) The Maraudeurs dominated with QB Jonathan Sénécal leading the offence and completing 27 out 45 for 350 yards, 4 touchdowns and 1 interception. His main target was #85 Charles Therrien who caught 11 balls for 164 yards. The Centurions counterpart, QB Olivier Pineau, improved and completed 17 out of 35 for 159 yards, 2 touchdowns and 2 interceptions. But the running game wasn’t there to support him and the defence did what they could to keep the game at 41-13 for the Maraudeurs.

Maraudeurs RB #8 Gabriel Leblond

Collège Charles-Lemoyne Dynamiques (1-3) vs Collège de Lévis Commandeurs (2-2) The Commandeurs double QB/RB, Tristan Blais, was slowed down passing wise by the Dynamiques defence. Blais only completed 11 out of 22 for 165 yards, but did a lot of damage on the ground, rushing 12 times for 117 yards. His acolates, RB Gabriel Leblond, rushed for 212 yards on 20 carries and RB Donovan Pilote scored the second major, provided the Commandeurs with a 19-10 win.

Scorpions RB #22 Danté Tortorici and the offensive line

École Sec. Armand-Corbeil Scorpions (3-0) vs École Sec. Saint-Stanislas Patriotes (2-1) The high powered offence of the Scorpions did not need dual threat  QB/RB Justin Leduc to run the ball. Their high-profile RB, Danté Tortorici, tore it up with 243 yards in only 23 carries with 4 touchdowns and his fellow RB, Mathieu Vachon, rushed for 121 yards in 18 carries and a touchdown. The Pariotes’ offence, with QB Félix Marsolais, did manage to move the ball and score a few points, but the defence wasn’t up to par and this one ended at 56-30 for the undefeated Scorpions.
