ALBERTA:

As Saturday Night Live’s Rosanne Roseannadanna was famous for saying – “It’s always something.” – and for the second year in a row the discovery of ineligible players in the Edmonton Metro League has thrown a curveball at the playoff match-ups.  Bellerose from St. Albert has now forfeited three games thus changing the dance partners in the Metro Division I quarterfinals and pushing those contests back to this Monday.  The rest of life in Alberta high school football moves on and next week again will be “Championship Weekend” where the final games leading to Provincials will take place in all leagues except for Calgary Division I and Edmonton Division I.   The Big Dance doesn’t start until November 8 but until then the league playoff action will be fierce.

NOVA SCOTIA:

For the Nova Division (Tier 1) of the Nova Scotia Student Athletic Federation Football League (NSSAFFL), playoffs begin this weekend. Each team will have a dangerous offensive threat – the Flames will have receiver Thomas Hoyt while the Cheetahs will counter with Will Chamberlain.  Special teams is where the Cheetahs will have an edge as Greg Hutchins brings consistency and accuracy.

In the other semi-final, it will be a deja vu of sorts from the last week of play in the regular season.  Two teams that have mutual respect for each other – CFC#37 Citadel Phoenix will face Prince Andrew Panthers. One player that will be showcased in this game is CFC 100 offensive lineman Jon Harvey.

Simon Richardson will guide the Phoenix offense in executing their game plan.  He will look to create some offensive magic with running back Tyler Martin and receiver Ian Farrell.  As for the Panthers, running back Nick Green and defensive standout Ben Deturbide will lead the charge in trying to stop the Phoenix from completing some unfinished business from last season.
