2015 was the final season for football at Barrie Central Collegiate, which will be closing in June 2016 after 173 years of academic prosperity and 100 years of football, many of which spent as a Simcoe County powerhouse.
On November 26, the school hosted its seventh annual awards banquet. The night was filled with great fun, great food, a slide show and reminiscence of an extraordinary season.
Many players took home some very prestigious awards for their contributions to the team this season. Winning an award is always something to be proud of, but there was a bit extra pride that came with these awards knowing that nobody would ever again win the award for Barrie Central
The awards and their winners are as follows:
Most Valuable Player: Curtis King (WR)
Offensive Player of the Year: Matthew Pigott (QB)
Offensive Lineman of the Year: Co-winners Daniel Camargo (C) & Austin Robison (LG)
Defensive Player of the Year: Co-winners: Jordan Travis (S) & Charlie Jeans (CB)
Defensive Lineman of the Year: Matthew Eliot (DE)
Rookie of the Year: Cam Vanbodegom (LB)
Most Improved Player: Brandon Shepard (RT)
Russell Atkinson Leadership Award: Josh Whyte (RB/SB)
Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
