#CFCHSFB PREVIEW (ONT): Offence advantage for Saints

This afternoon the senior boys St. Benedict Saints will be playing a road game against the Resurrection Phoenix.

The Saints’ offence is expected to be their biggest strength.

“We feel as though the experienced players on the offensive side of the ball will be an advantage for us going into Week 1,” said Saints Head Coach Joe Vale.

On the flip side, their defence needs to improve.

“Although we have skill, our defence is adjusting to a new scheme, so we expect a few bumps in the road along the way,” commented Vale.

There are a few players on the Saints that are ready to make a significant impact.

“We feel as though quarterback Alex Douglas is poised for a solid year,” said Vale. “Running back Aidan Yearwood possesses the tools to change a game in our favour. Brayden Hill is a gritty player that will see some time in the slot and at the linebacker position.”

According to Vale, the Phoenix will have a strong rushing attack.

“They usually rely on a strong run game and we expect the same again this year. They had some talented running backs at the junior level last year and we expect them to make an impact at the senior level this season.”

The Saints will try to limit Resurrection’s time of possession on the offensive side of the ball.

“We feel as though if we can keep their offence off the field and sustain long drives, we will be in good shape,” added Vale.

There will be a feeling out process during the Saints’ first game of the season.

“We held our blue and gold scrimmage last week, but until you are up against a real opponent, it is hard to know exactly what to expect,” commented Vale.

Vale feels that special teams will be a factor in their week one matchup against the Phoenix.

“We feel as though if we win 2/3 phases of the game, we will be very competitive,” said Vale. “In my opinion, a few big special teams plays will be the difference between winning or losing.”

The game starts at 3:00pm on Resurrection’s home turf.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
