#CFCHSFB PREVIEW (ONT- Waterloo): Panthers’ potent offence prepared for Trojans

The junior boys Preston Panthers are hoping that their momentum continues this week after a dominant 54-28 victory against Huron Heights in week one.

The Panthers are unsure of what to expect from their opponent this week, the Forest Heights Trojans.

ā€œThey are a bit of a mystery as we haven’t matched up against them in a few seasons,ā€ said Panthers Head Coach John Skovsgaard. ā€œThey won 24-14 last week against Bluevale, so we expect a good, tight game.ā€

The Panthers maintain a balance on offence and defence, which is their biggest strength. They have excellent athletes at the skill positions as well.

Having inexperienced players is something that they will have to overcome.

ā€œWe have a large number of players who have never played football before, as we do every year, but they have excellent work ethic and are sure to develop,ā€ stated Skovsgaard.

There are certain players on the Panthers that are expected to make an impact against the Trojans.

ā€œLook for Jordan Brubacher to have a big week at running back (three touchdowns last week), and quarterback Dylan Hillier (threw for three touchdowns and ran for one last week) to hook up with wide receiver Isaac Mapp,ā€ commented Skovsgaard. ā€œOn defence, Erik Maile anchors the defensive front and Jordan Ackie is a presenceĀ everywhere from his linebacking spot.ā€

The Panthers are aware of the fact that the Trojans had even distribution on the offensive side of the ball last week.

ā€œThey had three different players score touchdowns and only allowed 14 points, so they appear to be a fairly balanced squad,ā€ said Skovsgaard. ā€œWe will need to improve defensively against their balanced attack and continue to move the ball on offence as we did last week.ā€

Defence will be a key factor in determining the outcome of the game.

ā€œDefence wins championships,ā€ added Skovsgaard. ā€œIf we can limit them offensively, I believe we can win.ā€

The matchup between Preston and Forest Heights takes place at Preston High School on Thursday, October 1 at 1:00pm.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
