Blake Mckenzie-Thompson started playing football at around the age of seven in the National Capital Amateur Football Association (NCAFA) with the West Carleton Wolverines.

Since then, he has played with the Ottawa Myers Riders in the Ontario Varsity Football League (OVFL), where he received a Defensive MVP award for his 2014 season and was nominated for Rookie of the Year in the 2015 season.

The linebacker/defensive end has also played for the Almonte Thunderbolts in the Lanark County Interschool Athletic Association (LCIAA).

This past high school season brought Blake an MVP award and a victorious trip to the National Capital Bowl.

“This was the highlight of that season because we were beaten out in the semi-finals the year before, so it was great to win this year,” said Blake.

Moreover, the Rider also competed in this year’s #CFCOPC Ontario Prospect Challenge  and the AIA All Star Bowl.

These opportunities have lead to him talking to multiple universities, kick starting his recruitment process.

His future plans are to attend a university with a good law program and graduate to become a lawyer.

He is considering Carleton, Ottawa U, St. Francis Xavier, and Mount Allison, but has no current plans to visit universities.

“If I am asked to go on a visit to a university, I will definitely be there,” added Blake.

This summer, aside from playing with the Riders, he trains during the day before practices when he is not working.

During the offseason, he is going to train more than usual with the help of strength coaches, as his goal is to gain 15 to 20 pounds without losing any speed.

In the fall, Blake is still undecided as to if he will be returning to the Thunderbolts as he may be attending Canada Prep.

“The most influential person in my life and in football are my parents and my strength coaches at Elite Performance Academy,” explains the Rider, but they are not his only motivation.

“A few years back I had a good friend of mine pass away and he loved football, so he’s a huge part of my motivation to play at the next level.”

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
