Ottawa offensive lineman joins AUS team’s 2016 class
Acadia Axemen has announced the addition of Isaiah Hickson to their football program.
The 6β0, 245 pound offensive lineman (centre) from Ottawa, Ontario will join the team for the 2016 AUS season.
Hickson is the Axemenβs first commitment for 2016.
βWe are extremely pleased to have Isaiah join the Axemen family next year,β commented Axemen Head Coach Jeff Cummins.Β βHe is the kind of player, person and student-athlete we are looking for here at Acadia and expect great things from him on and off the field!β
βI canβt wait to get him here and coach him because weβre going to have a lot of fun and win a bunch of games with him.β
The offensive lineman has played for multiple teams during his gridiron career including Cumberland Panthers of the Ontario Varsity Football League (OVFL), as well as both the midget South Ottawa Stampeders and Gloucester South Raiders of the National Capital Amateur Football Association (NCAFA).
Moreover, Hickson participated in the Ontario Prospect Challenge (OPC) as a member of Team Eastβs varsity squad this past May at TD Place in Ottawa.
For his part, the Ontario standout opted for the Axemen for several reasons.
βI chose Acadia just as much for academic program as its football program, their smaller class sizes and campus included,β explained Hickson of his commitment.Β βThe moment I’d first arrived in Wolfville, I immediately felt at home and was welcomed by all the coaches and players there at the time.Β β
βThe football program is alsoΒ not lacking in anything, and I’m very comfortable with their offence.Β Lastly, I feel that I will benefit from the coaches at Acadia and ultimately become a better football player with their help.β
