CFCs ‘Top 25’ CIS poll – Week 4 – “How good are the undefeated teams?”

1. (NC) Laval Rouge et or(4-0) +125
Laval outlasted the Sherbrooke Vert et or at home 23 to 7 on sunday. They did not lose a step with back up QB Tristan Grenon under center for his first ever start.

2. (NC) Ottawa Gee Gees – (5-0) +62
The Gee Gees continue to find a way to win. This time they did it in overtime versus the defending champs from kingston. Brad Sinopoli and his receiving corps continue to make timely plays at the end of the game. Is Sinopoli on his way to a hec creighton season?

3. (NC) Montreal Carabins (4-0) +55
Rotrand Sene continues his strong play and is a legitimate candidate for first team all-canadian and the hec creighton. They play the gaiters this weekend which will be a big test for the carabins.

4. (5) Calgary Dinos (3-1) -8
Even without a full lineup the dinos are finding a way to win. The three game win streak has been a true test for the depleted dino’s. They host a banged up UBC squad this saturday at McMahon stadium.

5. (6) Regina Rams(3-1) +77
Regina continued their strong offensive play against UBC this past weekend. Host Alberta in a game that could solidify a playoff position for the rams. Adrian Charles had a breakout game versus UBC.

6. (5) Western Mustangs (3-1) +97
Outlasted the gryphons in front of a sold out crowd and national television audience. The defense has been outstanding and may be the best in the OUA. A great test this weekend when they play the gaels for the first time since last years epic yates cup.

6. (10) Bishops Gaiters (3-1) +20
The Gaiters are on a 3 game win streak but have yet to face laval or montreal. The carabins visit the gaiters this weekend and should be a great indication of how strong the gaiters really are. Fifth year QB Jesse Andrews and the gaiter front 7 will have to come up big this weekend.

7. (12) Saskatchewan Huskies (2-2) 15
Got back on track with the long ball versus alberta. A home victory against manitoba will go a long way to solidifying a playoff spot.

8. (7) Alberta Golden Bears (2-2) 0
Were blown out by saskatchewan. The defense gave up some big plays en route to the loss. Need to regroup this week when they face a very good regina team. Which team will show up?

9. (14) Concordia Stingers (2-2) -13
For the third week in a row the stingers were without 5th year QB Rob MacKay. The young stingers were up late in the game but could not hold on versus the gaiters. They travel to Laval on sunday.

10. (8) Guelph Gryphons (3-1) +25
Lost a hard fought game to the mustangs. Sport the best defense in the OUA. Big test this weekend in Laurier. Offense needs to score more points. They have the weapons with Fitzgibbon and Gardner.

12. (14) McMaster Mauraders (3-2) 4
Playing windsor at home was the remedy they were looking for. Traveling to York should be an easy victory for the mauraders. Are they getting healthier?

13. (11) UBC Thunderbirds (1-3) -47
On a two game skid after defeating the huskies. Injuries are starting to play a big factor. Travel to Calgary to face a dino team who is on a 3 game win streak. QB Billy Greene has to limit the turnovers to give his team a chance.

14. (13) Manitoba Bisons (1-3) -37
Lost to calgary on a last minute field goal. A playoff position will slip away if they can’t beat the huskies this weekend.

15. (14) Wilfrid Laurier Hawks- (2-2) +38
Blew out York and look to get back in playoff race when they host Guelph on saturday

16. (15) Queens Gaels(1-3) +20
The defending champs took the undefeated Gee Gees to overtime at home. Could have won all three loses. Young QB play has limited their offensive effectiveness early this year. It doesn’t get any easier this week when they travel to London to play Western at their homecoming.

17. (NC) Sherbrooke Vert et or (1-3) -16
Played Laval tough on the road losing 23 to 7. Beating McGill this weekend will put them in position to challenge for a playoff spot. Fifth year QB JP Shoiry has to lead the way.

18. (21) Mount Allison Mounties (2-1) -19
Offense has moved the chains all year. Injury to Gary Ross during the SMU game is a concern. Can they win without him?

19. (NC) Acadia Axemen (2-1) 8
Beat St FxXat home and are looking to secure a playoff spot by defeating st mary’s at huskie stadium this weekend. Defense has played very well in both AUS games.

20. (18) McGill Redmen (0-4) -66
Lost third heartbreaker in a row, not being able to score first and goal late in the game against montreal. Led 11 to 10 in the fourth quarter. Have arguably the best punter and kicker in the CIS, with Thomas Silva (who will be in the CFL next year) and Austin Anderson.

21. (20) Saint Mary’s Huskies (0-3) -50
The first time since 1998 the huskies lost to Mount Allison and the first time since 2006 they are 0 and 3. Hope to rebound this week with a home date versus Acadia. Offense has struggled all season.

22. (NC) Windsor Lancers (1-4) -84
Played western tough at home but were blown out against McMaster. Have the bye this week.

23. (NC) Saint Francis Xavier (0-3) -43
Lost to Acadia this week and will play a Mount Allison who is coming off an emotional victory against st mary’s.

24. (NC) Toronto Varsity Blues (1-3) -37
Had the bye this week. Host the undefeated Gee Gees this saturday.

25. (NC) York Lions (0-4) -125
Got ugly early versus Laurier.
