CFCs ‘Top 25’ CIS poll – Week 8 “Will no bye week hurt Quebec?”

1. (NC) Laval Rouge et or(8-0) +298
The deepest team in the country will have to rely on that depth as injuries continue to mount for the Rouge et or.

The 9-game, no bye, QUFL schedule may have made more money for the conference (5 Laval home games) but it may give them a lesser chance of winning outside of their conference. Every other conference has a bye week or rewards a bye to the top seeded teams in the playoffs.

2. (4) Saskatchewan Huskies (5-2) +116
Control their own destiny and can stay in Saskatoon until week of Vanier. If they win against Regina they will stay home through the Mitchell Bowl.

3. (5) Calgary Dinos (5-2) -2
Two games against Saskatchewan = two losses. Two games against Regina = two wins. Finish versus provincial rivals. A victory and a Saskatchewan loss would guarantee home throughout the playoffs

4. (2) Regina Rams(5-2) +130
A late comeback attempt was not enough for the rams to defeat the dinos. Have lost twice to the dinos. Battle of Saskatchewan this week. Right on.

5. (3) Western Mustangs (7-1) +221
Were losing at home to Toronto at the half. Have one of the top defenses in the country. Offense is a ball control offense so must not get behind early against the great teams. Have the bye this week in first round of OUA quarter finals.

6. (8) Ottawa Gee Gees – (7-1) +123
Played near flawless against the Gryphons. Another bye should bode well for the health of the Gee Gees and top defender, returner Chayce Elliot. Sinopoli should win the Hec Creighton.

7. (9) McMaster Mauraders (6-2) +89
Had the bye. Host Queens in quarter-final OUA playoff action this week. Traditionally a tight contest whenever these two teams square off. Lets go.

8. (10) Saint Mary’s Huskies (4-3) +83
Won 4 in a row. Formula for success has been stifling defense, unbelievable special teams, a ball controlled offense, some more defense and some more special teams. Beat Acadia this week and get the bye and host AUS final.

9. (6) Montreal Carabins (5-3) +46
Other than the McGill victory, have scored less points from week 1 through week 8 each and every game. Offensive production and turnovers are the issues holding the Carabins back.

10. (11) Sherbrooke Vert et or (4-4) -17
JP Shoiry is on a roll. The 5th year QB has orchestrated two impressive offensive performances in a row after being nicked up against McGill. Beat McGill this weekend and they guarantee a playoff spot. A 3 point loss to Montreal in week one prevents them from finishing any higher than 3rd. Hoping for a Gaiter loss to avoid trip to Quebec City in semi-finals, provided they beat McGill.

11. (7) Bishops Gaiters (5-3) -32
Lost two in a row and are in danger of traveling to Quebec City in the first round unless they can defeat the Carabins this weekend in Montreal. Should be a great game.

12. (16) Concordia Stingers (4-4) -36
Gave themselves a chance to make the playoffs by winning on the road at CEPSUM against the Carabins. Travel to Laval where they have to win to have any chance at the playoffs.

13. (NC) Wilfrid Laurier Hawks- (4-4*) +78
Offense has some momentum going now that QB Shane Kelly is looking comfortable behind center. Could make some noise in the OUA playoffs.

14. (15) Alberta Golden Bears (3-4) -11
A big 4th quarter against Manitoba guaranteed a playoff spot. The only thing not known is which city they will travel too. Calgary, Regina, or Saskatoon?

15. (12) UBC Thunderbirds (2-5) -81
Officially eliminated from the playoffs with loss to Sask Huskies. End season versus other non-playoff team, Manitoba.

16. (14) Guelph Gryphons (4-4) -33
Laid and egg in Ottawa. Must get the ball to Fitzgibbons and Gardner as many different ways as possible to beat Laurier.

17. (18) Queens Gaels(3-5) +66
Can salvage a poor regular season by defeating McMaster on the road this week in quarter final action. Were one yard away from doing so in week 1.

18. (19) Acadia Axemen (4-3) +1
Defeated the x-men by scoring two early defensive / special team touchdowns. Host SMU for first place. Win get the bye. Lose, potentially travel in first round of AUS playoffs.

19. (17) Mount Allison Mounties (3-4) -60
Were outclassed by the SMU Huskies. Left the offense with the broken down bus. Only 140 yards. Win against X and hope Acadia losses to SMU and will host first home field playoff game since 1998.

20. (21) Toronto Varsity Blues (3-5*) -96

21. (22) Manitoba Bisons (1-6) -145
Lost 6 in a row.

22. (NC) Windsor Lancers (2-6) -105

23. (NC) Saint Francis Xavier (1-6) -128
Out of the playoffs officially and need to play the young guys lots the last week.

24. (NC) McGill Redmen (0-8) -193
Offense would not be bad if they counted all the touchdowns they score for the other teams.

25. (NC) York Lions (0-8) -343

* Toronto won forfeit game against Wilfrid Laurier
