WEEK 1 ‘TOP 25’

TOP 25

1 – (NC) W.J. Mouat Hawks – Abbotsford, B.C. – (1-0 ex.)

Retained their #1 ranking after defeating the New Westminster Hyacks 40 to 20 in exhibition play. John Watson (Team BC) caught a 55 yard TD pass from Cam Bedore (Team BC). Bedore was 11-of-22 for 217 yards and two touchdowns. Outstanding defensive efforts were put in by LB Jake Heathcote (eight tackles), Luke Friesen (seven & blocked punt) and LB Brady Churly (seven). They open their regular season saturday with a visit from Mt. Douglas.

2 – (NC) Aden Bowman Bears – Saskatoon – (2-0)

Have now won their first 2 games by a combined 86 to 6. QB Drew Burko has been flawless in both starts. Play the 1 and 1 Walter Murray Mauraders this weekend.

3 – (NC) Raymond Comets – Raymond, AB (2-0)

Won last years title and have won first two exhibition games in impressive fashion. Rumour has it that Connor Ralph may be the best of the Ralph boys…and the other 2 weren’t too bad. Last week they beat Lebouldus (SK) 66-4. This week they travelled south of the border and defeated Blackfoot, ID by a score of 34 to 19. Watch at www.idahosports.com.

4) (13) Séminaire Saint-François Blizzard – Saint-Augustin, Quebec – (3-0)

This week the Blizzard were in Laval and defeated Liberty 31 to 7. In week two they defeated Polyvalente Benoît-Vachon 46 to 0. In week one they defeated their major rival from St-Jean-Eudes 18 to 2. They are the only undefeated Quebec team to beat a team with a win. Another reason the Cactas and Les Loups dropped this week. The blizzard have been led by Mathieu Duval DL, Dimitri Roy DL et Jean-Gabriel Poulin LB and Jean-François Bernard OL and RB Brad Laplante. The most impressive part, and the reason for their jump up the standings is giving up 3 points per game. WOW.

5) (NR) Nelson Lords – Burlington, ON (1-0 ex.)

Like other ontario teams, once play begins there will be lots of movement on the top 25 list. The lords traveled to london last week to play the previously CFC #4 ranked Mother Teresa Spartans. They trounced the spartans in that game by a score of 40 to 15. The Nelson Lords feature grade 11 phenom QB Will Finch (PICTURE) and outstanding receiver Josh Vandeweerd.

6 – (NC) É. sec. Curé-Antoine-Labelle les Loups – Laval, QC – (2-0)

Les Loups kept in going this week defeating Externat St-Jean-Eudes 40 to 12. QB Simon Girard and receivers Alexandre Savard and David Gold had strong games. Like the Cactus they have yet to play an opponent with a victory. And like the blizzard defense has been the key for les loups in their first 3 games. The wolves have been led by Gabriel Parent, Khadim Mbaye, and Matthew Gelineau in their first 3 games. The defending Juvenile AAA champs are again a force again this year.

7 – (NC) Centennial Centaurs – Coquitlam, BC (0-1 ex.)

Did not play this week. Last week in exhibition play lost 37-18 at Lynden, Wash. The 2009 BC AAA champs should be a force again this year. New head coach Ryk Piche will look to key returning veterans like all-purpose player Bobby Pospischil, tackle Jacob Hayes and centre Lucas Telfor to carry the load. Centennial plays Sands on Saturday in an interlock game.

8 – (NC) Kelowna Owls – Kelowna, BC (2-0 ex.)

In exhibition play Taylor Loffler has not disappointed in his first 2 games. In a half of action he did the following: 7 for 12, 194 yards, 2 TDs, and 2 rushing TDs as QB; caught 24 yard TD as a receiver; 80 yd punt return TD; 6 tackles and fumble recovery. And the Owls beat their second american opponent in a row, this time Clarence Fulton 54 to 8. Kelowna is at Seaquam this Saturday in an interlock game.

9(NC) Herman Griffins – Windsor, ON (0-0)

Led by Michigan State commit Arjen Colquhoun this team should be one of the more explosive teams in Ontario. They play against St. Annes Saints this thursday.

10 (5) Collège Notre-Dame Cactus – Montreal – (3-0)

The Cactus won 45 to 35 against the Collège Jean-Eudes. Defense had led the way in first two victories only giving up 4 points per game but it was the offense who had to come through in game 3. They have yet to play an opponent with a victory and this is why they drop this week. Star defenders include Linebackers Brendan Coffey, Louis-Charles Dussault ,and defensive linemen Ugo Cavalancia and Mathieu Betts star.

11 – (10) Donald A. Wilson Gators – Whitby, ON (0-1 ex.)

Will be a solid squad. Players to watch will be Greg Morris – RB / DB, Chivon Gallagher – REC / RB / DB, Dakota Rose – OL / DL, Joe Denobirga – OL / LB, Mike McGregor – LB. Donald Wilson opened their fall season on August 27th when they visited North Canton, Ohio to play division 1 power house Hoover High School, losing by 35 to 25. Play in the Weir classic this week.

12 – (11) Terry Fox Ravens – Port Coquitlam, BC (2-0 ex.)

Terry Fox is 2 and 0 in exhibition play after defeating Ottawa St. Mark’s 44 to 6 and this week defeating a very good Vancouver College team 19 to 14. Running back Jacob Patko (Team BC) had 20 carries for 129 yards and 2 TDs. They open their regular season on friday against New Westminister.

13 – (14) Bev Facey Falcons – Sherwood Park, AB (2-0)

Beat McNally by a lopsided score of 57 to 8. They face against Archbishop Jordan this week. They are led on offense by Team Alberta QB Taylor Yaremchuk, REC Conrad Whetstone and DL Logan Laforce.

14 – (15) St. Paul’s Crusaders – Winnipeg (1-0)

The Crusaders looked great in their first regular season game. Football Canada Cup all-star lineback D.J. Lalama, had an interception and returned it for 6 points. Teammate Leon Cenerini had a solid game on special teams. The offense was led by a strong running game and QB Theo Deezar (Team Manitoba). Final score 65 to 0.

15 (17) Citadel Phoenix – Halifax (1-0)

Led by Team Nova Scotia starting QB Jesse Mills, the Phoenix hammered the Horton Griffins 47 to 10 on Sunday. Mills amassed 400 yards through the air while RB Dechaum Beals had 250 total yards (160 rushes, 90 yd pass reception TD). DB Will Zed had 4 tackles and a fumble recovery. They face Sir John A this friday.

16 – (NC)
Holy Cross Crusaders – Saskatoon (1-0)

Beat St Joseph this week by a score of 27 to 7. Beat STM in week one 24 to 6. Have the bye this week. Offensive leaders include quarterback Derek Sadownick, running back Stephen Baumann and slotback Jordan Spooner. The defense is bolstered by linebackers Kayle Best and Landon McKay.

17 – (12) Bishop O Byrne – Calgary, AB (0-0)

They dropped out of the Alberta top 10 while not playing a game but we will keep them in our top 25, for now. Looking forward to seeing them in action

18 – (NC) Harry Ainlay Titans – Edmonton (0-1 ex.)

Played this week in San Diego, CA vs. Coronado. Playing american rules, the Titans lost the game 25 to 13.

19 – (NC) Oak Park Raiders – Winnipeg (1-0)

Defeated Vincent Massey 41 to 6 on friday. Nic Demski ran the ball well as did Mario Ciaflone. The weather played havoc with both teams pass games. Their next game is thursday versus Sturgeon Heights.

20 – (NC) Moncton Purple Knights – Moncton, NB (1-0)

Won a tightly contested game versus Tantramar 34 to 27. Marc Mcdougall recovered a blocked punt in the end zone on the final play of game to give the purple knights the victory (Tantramar attempted a punt back to negate the one point rouge).

21 – (NC)
Lethbridge – Lethbridge, AB (1-0)
