CFL hall of famer Mike Pringle to coach the Montreal Carabins


The Hall of Fame of Canadian football running back and former star of the Montreal Alouettes, Mike Pringle, will accompany the head coach Danny Maciocia Carabins and the University of Montreal for the opening of the season.

Pringle, which had its most memorable seasons when he was led by Maciocia in the CFL, players will accompany them on the bench during the game on Thursday 1st September at 19h CEPSUM face Redmen McGill. This meeting will launch the 2011 season of university football in Quebec and Canada.

“I’ve never met an athlete as well prepared as Mike Pringle in my coaching career”, said Maciocia, who has spent 14 seasons in the CFL, including eight with Pringle, Montreal and Edmonton. “He is a winner and there is no one like him to handle adversity. He will share his expertise with our young players and talk to each other about the importance of mental strength. It will be quite an experience for them. ”

“I am very proud to have him by my side for the official start of my adventure at UdeM. He greatly influenced my coaching career, admits Maciocia, champion two Grey Cups. He was so demanding in its preparation that I had no choice to be myself ready to answer any questions. ”

An extraordinary career

Mike Pringle had a distinguished career in the CFL and helped the rebirth of the franchise of the Montreal Alouettes establishing several records that still stand. In 1998 he became the only player in history to cross the milestone of 2,000 yards gained on the ground in a season with a total of 2065. His total of 16,425 career yards remains the highest in league history. He also holds the mark of rushing touchdowns in a season with 19, a record set in 2000.

Pringle had a career of 11 seasons in the CFL, both with the Baltimore Stallions, seven with Montreal and two in the uniform of the Edmonton Eskimos. After his retirement before the start of the 2005 season, his jersey was retired by the Alouettes’ organization. In 2008 he was inducted into the Hall of Fame of Canadian football.
