CFL: NAPA Touchdown Atlantic features classic division rivalry

MONCTON, N.B. –  This year’s NAPA Touchdown Atlantic game will be played on a Saturday night in Moncton, NB and will feature a classic division rivalry between the Montreal Alouettes and ‘home team’ Hamilton Tiger-Cats. Fans wishing to attend this must-see match-up can purchase tickets starting on Saturday, May 25 at 10:00am AT, the Canadian Football League announced today.

But fans who register at CFL.ca for the CFL Field Pass will have access to an exclusive pre-sale opportunity on Friday, May 24 at 10:00am AT.

“We are absolutely thrilled to be returning to Atlantic Canada for our third regular season game,” said CFL Commissioner Mark Cohon. “And it’s fair to say that it wouldn’t have been possible without the support of our proud partner NAPA, the City of Moncton, the Province of New Brunswick and, of course, our fans in Atlantic Canada.”

At a news conference today in Moncton, the CFL unveiled ticket information and officially introduced NAPA as the title sponsor of the event.

“Canadian football is about spirited competition, striving for excellence and delivering a high quality product to fans,” said Robert Hattem, President and CEO of UAP Inc. “NAPA is proud to be the title sponsor of the NAPA Touchdown Atlantic game. NAPA is not only excited to be embarking into a brand new relationship with the CFL this year but is also proud to associate itself with Canadian football which is an important fabric of our culture.”

NAPA Touchdown Atlantic will be played on Saturday, September 21 at 5:00pm AT at the Stade Moncton Stadium. The game will be broadcast on TSN and RDS.

•Tickets go on-sale to the general public on Saturday, May 25 at 10:00am AT

•Fans can register at CFL.ca  for an exclusive pre-sale opportunity on Friday, May 24 at 10am AT

•Tickets start at $49 and the best seats in the house are only $95

•Season seat holders of the Ticats and Alouettes will have access to a pre-sale on Thursday, May 23 at 10am AT.

 

 

Also attending today’s news conference in Moncton were pro football’s most prolific passer and three-time Grey Cup champion, Montreal quarterback Anthony Calvillo and former Most Outstanding Player and two-time Grey Cup champion, Hamilton quarterback Henry Burris.

In 2011, Burris played in Touchdown Atlantic II as the visiting starting quarterback for the Stampeders and brought his western swagger to Moncton and fell in love with people of Atlantic Canada.

“Having the opportunity to play in Moncton in 2011 is one of the highlights of my career,” Burris said. “And now to come back again, this time as the home team, is truly an honour and I look forward to seeing our great Atlantic Canada fans once again.”

Calvillo, who went head to head with Burris in the 2008 Grey Cup in Montreal, is equally excited to be a part of this year’s NAPA Touchdown Atlantic game.

“I’ve heard that we have a lot of fans in Atlantic Canada, which will make this game extra special for us,” said Calvillo. “To think back to when I started playing amateur football on the West Coast and now to be playing in a professional football game on the Canadian East Coast at this point in my career is something very special to me.”

As NAPA Touchdown Atlantic’s host for the third time, City of Moncton Mayor George LeBlanc was proud to welcome the CFL back to the city.

“We are excited to be continuing our great partnership with the CFL and we are pleased to welcome back a familiar team in the Tiger-Cats and also officially welcome for the first time the Montreal Alouettes,” said Mayor LeBlanc. “Bringing a third Touchdown Atlantic game to Moncton shows that this is a great football city and we are looking forward to once again filling Moncton Stadium with passionate and knowledgeable fans.”

Premier David Alward said NAPA Touchdown Atlantic fits in with New Brunswick’s aspirations to be the entertainment capital of Atlantic Canada.
