CFL vs NFL; Which one suits you better?

One thing we all know for sure is that American football has been around for a very long time and it has grown to become one of the biggest most popular sporting sectors in the whole wide world. Millions if not billions of fans of professional football from all around the globe enjoy watching weekly games from two major leagues that originate from the American continent, these being the National Football League (NFL) and the Canadian Football League (CFL).

The names and overall sport might seem quite similar with the only difference between the two being the country where the league is played, NFL in the United States of America and the CFL in canada, however, there’s a number of differences that one should keep in mind between the two sport leagues. The NFL’s popularity makes it a lot more accessible to bet on online casinos like casinotop.com and many more.

For Starters, the fields are quite different from one another in the two leagues, with the CFL field being considerably larger than the NFL field. In the NFL, the general field size is 91.44 meters long and 48.76 meters wide, while CFL fields are 100.58 meters long and 59.44 meters wide. This of course would affect the placement of the midfield lines, where in the NFL it’s at 50 yards and in the CFL it’s placed at 55 yards. The end zone lengths are also a bit different from each other, the NFL end zone is 10 yards deep, while in the CFL fields it’s double the depth, being 20 yards long. The total lengths for the entire fields are 150 yards for CFL fields and 120 yards for NFL fields.

Naturally, a larger playing area would mean that players would have to travel more, which can make the sport a lot more tiring for certain players, although, this negative effect could be balanced out by adding an extra player per team to the field, which is what the CFL did. The greater distance also affects the playstile of the two leagues, where whilst the NFL is more “solo run”-oriented due to shorter distance, CFL teams depend a lot more on passing so that players do not instantly tire themselves out after a couple sprints up and down the field.

Another main difference between the two leagues is the placement of the field goals. In the NFL, the field goals are placed at the deepest ends in the end zones, while in the CFL, they are placed at the start of the end zones. This is to balance out the distance between field goal to field goal in both sports.

Another huge aspect to keep in mind is the amount of money players earn. While both leagues are very rich, the player salaries are very different from one another. Due to the NFL being widely more popular than the CFL thanks to worldwide American publicity and an immensely dense population, the salaries are incredibly high for most NFL players. While in the CFL, even though still earning good money, there’s a very long way to go for the league to reach the financial heights of the NFL. Let’s make a nice little table to show you how average salaries vary from NFL to CFL;

This means that while NFL players are living the life of a celebrity with more money they could ever spend, CFL players enjoy a decent amount of money, however most CFL players also work normal jobs during the off-season time every year so that they could support their sporting wage. In 2020, the lowest and highest NFL wages are $610,000 USD and $35 million USD, while in the CFL, the lowest rate is $41,000 CAD and the highest is $2.9 million CAD.
