Charly Cardilicchia named BCFC Coach of the Year

Victoria, BC, Canada – October 19, 2017 – It doesn’t get more exciting than this for Island football fans, the Westshore Rebels play the VI Raiders in the BCFC Cullen Cup Saturday at 7pm at Westhills Stadium and Coach Charly Cardiliichia is named BCFC Head Coach of the Year.

The road back to the Cullen Cup started back in the Spring when Coach Cardilicchia traveled across Canada to recruit new Rebels players. The 2016 Cullen Cup team saw many of their talented players move on to USport teams or graduating out of the Canadian Junior Football League. Charly did not inherit a winning team he had to create one with only 25% of the 2016 team returning.

β€œThis season has been an uphill battle through all the adversity and challenges we faced, Coach Charly has persevered and has won the respect and trust of his team and Coaches so this coveted award is very meaningful. It has been an evolution and as a first year Coach in the CJFL, Charly is only going to get better. We are extremely proud of Coach Cardilicchia and the entire Westshore Rebels team”,Β says Rob Lervold, Westshore Rebels President.

With only one loss to the Okanagan Suns in the first game of the season by 4 points the Rebels have gone on to win ten straight games, including a strong 54-17 win against the Langley Rams in the playoffs to send the Westshore Rebels back to the Cullen Cup.

β€œWhen I interviewed Charly, I knew right away we had found a Coach who wasn’t afraid to put in the work, understands the Jr. football grind, and knows that it’s not just a job, it’s a lifestyle. I have personally coached alongside Charly at the youth level for many years now and new that no one was going to match him for energy, positivity, football IQ and confidence. This award just validates what those of us around him have always known, he is one hell of a football coach,” says Jonathan Poppitt, Westshore Rebels GM

Coach Cardilicchia saidΒ β€œthis is a team award I couldn’t have done it without my other Coaches and very talented team. Although we have had a tremendous season that I am very proud of we are not close to being done yet. We have the Cullen Cup to win, then we need to get through the Prairie Conference to get to the Canadian Bowl. My sights are on taking it all and I believe our team can do it!”
