Chilliwack: (VIDEO) JB Red Giants beat the Mission 9ers in an offensive shootout; Midget & Bantam win


MIDGET

The Chilliwack Giant midget team had a huge bounce back game this week. After suffering a devastating loss to the Langley Stampeders last week 20-8.

Too many injuries and a lack of discipline were a huge factor in the loss.However this past Saturday the boys came up with a great effort led by rookie qb Klay Larocque. The defence was outstanding with a tremendous job by the front line. Final score Giants 32-0 over Richmond. Next up the Midgets travel to Victoria on Sunday go giants go!!

JUNIOR BANTAM

The Chilliwack JB Red Giants beat the Mission 9ers 39-36 in an offensive shoot out this past weekend. Leading the Giants were running backs Thijs Duinveld with 2 touchdowns, while Cory Armstrong, Ryan Connelly and Treyvon Walsh were all able to reach the endzone. Kirkland Kennedy was also able to cross the goal line for a touchdown and made three key runs late in the game behind centre Diego Pineda to help secure the victory. Colton Derouin hauled in 2 passes for touchdown conversion points in the game.

On defense, Nashon Douglas was able to pound his way through the Mission defense to make several hard tackles. Also standing out on defense were linebackers: Rajah Sandu, Seth Lundgren and Baker Douglas who also recovered a fumble early in the first game. The Giants are now preparing for this weekend’s game in Maple Ridge against the Knights.

BANTAM

The Junior Bantam Blue Giants rolled to an impressive 52-14 win over the Meadow Ridge Knights. QB Hunter Larocque had an outstanding game connecting on 6-8 passes for 168 yards and a TD, while rushing for 178 yards and 4 TDs. Riley Clayton was Larocque’s favorite target catching 4 passes for 103 yards and a TD. Running back Mario Brizuela carried the ball 12 times for 173 yards while Tristan Davis added 75 yards on the ground. On defense Larocque was the Giants leading tackler and had an interception. Linebackers Lane Levesque and Sam Meyer harassed the Knights backfield all game with several tackles each. Corner Sam Audet added an interception and a few great solo tackles. As always the Giants offensive and Defensive lines were solid and won the battle on the line of scrimmage. Leading the Giants lineman were Chris Derksen and AJ Sagrott. The undefeated Giants take on the also undefeated Abbotsford Falcons for first place in the VCFL this Saturday at Rotary Stadium in Abbotsford.
