Chillwack: Blue Giants secure 3rd, Reds bounce back

The Peewee Blue Giants defeated the Mission 9ers 45-6 last Saturday. The 6-3 Giants secured third place and an away playoff game with the win. Running back Wyatt Uzick suffered a broken hand in the game and will be out the rest of the season.

“Its a huge loss for our team” noted Head Coach Lawrence Smith, “but not just in terms of his talent, he is a true leader in the huddle”. In the first half Uzick had 5 carries for 143 yards and 3 TDs. Gabe Mannes had 3 carries for 90 yards and 3 TDs as well. “Injuries are part of football…we are a team and we will continue to execute as a team” concluded Smith. Ethan Mastin had 34 yards rushing and recovered an onside kick while Riley Eagan, Aaron Guliker, Reese Smith, Jaren Lengert, and Owen Eyres also carried the ball for the Giants.

On Defense Jake Troyan led the way with 5 tackles and 1 sack while Gibson Hardie, Michael Lengert, Reese Smith, Spencer Breslin, Jaren Lengert, Evan McCracken, Ethan Mastin and Adam Phillips all had sacks. The Giants defense did not allow a first down until the last drive of the game. Tyler Kermode, Austin Kardux and Riley Eagan also played great games on defense from the halfback and corner positions.

The Giants conclude their regular season in Langley this Saturday against the Bears.

The PeeWee Red Giants bounced back again this past Saturday. After a huge loss the previous week, the Red Giants defeated the Langley Bears 30 – 0 this week. The defensive shut was largely due to the strong play by Defensive Tackles Nat Onema and Jacob Butler and half backs Ethan Pearce, Ryan Clayton and Kyle Webber. The Red Giants also scored their first Defensive touchdown of the year when Jonathan Zandberg intercepted a pass and took it in for the major. Touchdowns were also scored by Ayden Harvey and an 82 yard streak up the sidelines by Parker Roach. The touchdowns were made possible by the strong blocking of running backs Hayden Oraschuk, Miguel Wood and Jayden Mourato. Justin Hopwood, and Mitchell and Marcel Bauer were a wall on the left side of the Offensive Line.

Todays game at Heritage Park Secondary School in Mission came to a 0-0 tie. That means Chiilliwack Giants Atom Blue (3-6-1) miss the playoffs because the Mission 9ers (3-5-1) had defeated Chilliwack Blue 19-18 in an earlier contest. Mission still has Meadow Ridge Blue Knights (7-1) to play, but should end up 3-6-1 after that game next week.

The usual stand-outs for Chilliwack Blue are Justin Crooks, Andrew Locke, Colton Holt, Grayson Hardie and Jaylen Edwards.

Edwards had 65 yards rushing and 2 tackles on defence. Locke and Holt were 30 rushing yards each. Locke had 4 tackles and Holt had 2 plus a fumble recovery for a turnover.
Crooks had 7 tackles and Hardie had a couple. The above crew all completed their offensive blocking assignments very well.

Great defensive game too. The team really came together and played well. And that’s it for the season.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
