Chillwack: PeeWee Red Gets the Shut Out, Atoms Blue ‘play complete game’, Bantams undefeated

The Chilliwack Giants Pee Wee Red team played their best game of the season so far this weekend beating the Mission Niners 28 – 0.

Strong play by the entire defense was the key and special mention goes to Defensive Ends Erik VanDerWerff, Warren Rogers and Ethan Peters who prevented Mission from getting any runs outside. Brodie Porter and Hayden Oraschuk played disciplined Corner positions and made drive stopping tackles. Dustin Wutzke and Kyle Pascoe did a great job of reading and reacting to the Mission Offense. This strong play by the defense continually provided great field position for the offense. Key blocks by Jayden Mourato opened big gains by the running backs. Touchdowns were scored by Ayden Harvey, Brody Porter, Haden Oraschuk and Kobe Pool. Gabriel Olivares kicked two converts to add 4 points to the total score.

The Peewee Blue Giants suffered their third straight defeat after starting the season 4-0 and now stand in third place in the league. The Giants lost 12-0 to the first place Meadow Ridge Knights. Overall the Giants played a much better game than during last week’s 36-0 drubbing at the hands of the Abbotsford Falcons. Linebacker Wyatt Uzick had a team-leading 13 tackles in the loss while Spencer Breslin and Emilio Pineda were also outstanding on defense. Jake Troyan had most of the Giants carries on offense and gained consistent yards through a really tough Knights defense. In the end it was fumbles and penalties that stalled most of the Giants offensive drives. The Knights connected on two long passes during the game, which was the difference on the score board. Otherwise the Giants defense was very solid against the run, only surrendering one first down. Colin Campbell played a great game subbing in on defensive line, with 2 tackles and a partial sack. The Giants play the Chilliwack Red Giants this weekend in the battle for third place.

Head Coach Sean Dallas says β€˜We played a complete game”, and was very happy on the effort of all the players. Liam Dallas stepped up big time to play center for the Offence. He snapped the ball very well and was double teaming players all game. Offence Coach Tony Edwards says the Offensive Line has improved a lot in 5 weeks. We’re not allowing anyone in the pocket and allowing QB Brandt Davies time to throw. Andrew Locke rushed and pushed up the middle for 82 yards and 2 TD’s. Jaylen Edwards scampered 12 yards for a TD. Mack Barton-Paquette converted a TD for 2 points with a kick through the uprights. Mack also kicked for 61 yards in 4 kickoffs.

Date of next game: Oct. 23/10 Place: Townsend Versus: Meadow Ridge Gold Knights

The Junior Bantam Chilliwack Blue Giants continued thier unbeaten season last Saturday with a 56-6 win over the Meadow Ridge Knights. The first place Giants had scoring contributions from several players on offense. Running back Tristan Davis carried the ball 9 times for 132 yards and 3 TDs’ while Mario “McLovin” Brizuela had 2 TDs. Both Emerson Smith and QB Hunter Larocque also found the endzone for the Giants. Receiver Kyle Helsloot had a 32 yard reception in the second quarter to put the Giants in field goal range. Kicker Tyler Sprott was 7 for 7 in PATs (converts). As always, the blocking up front led the Giants offensive explosion, with Darwin Biamonte and AJ Sagrott opening up huge holes for the Giants 535 yards of offense.

Linebackers Cole Wood and Cody Morgentaler led the way on defense while Chris Derksen and Noah Braun had outstanding games on the defensive line. The Giants defense surrendered a long TD late in the game but had not allowed a single Meadow Ridge first down until late in the fourth quarter. Ball hawk Sam Audet had his fifth interception of the year. The Giants take on the Chilliwack Red Giants this weekend in a showdown for first place in the VCFL. “There goes the theory that you can’t have competitive teams when you split the talent” noted Head Coach Mike Derksen in regard to the two Giants teams sitting first and second overall in the league standings. “As a result of our growth as an association, we are fielding two competitive teams in most divisions while much larger communities like Abbotsford and Langley have only one team.”

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
