Circelli to coach Stingers’ offensive line

Head coach Mickey Donovan is pleased to announce Jean-Paul Circelli will join the Concordia Stingers football program, taking on responsibilities for the offensive line and co-ordinating the run game.

“I’m thrilled he has agreed to come to Montreal and work with us because he is a great coach and a close friend,” said Donovan. “The first thing he brings to our program is a phenomenal ability to coach the offensive line and the second part is his character. He will be a great mentor for our athletes.”

A London, Ont. native, Circelli played centre for the McMaster Marauders football team from 2001 through 2005.

An accomplished student, he has three university degrees to his credit: a bachelor of arts in Kinesiology (McMaster), a bachelor of education (Western) and a master of arts in Kinesiology, specializing in coaching (Western).

In 2006, Circelli began his coaching career as an assistant coach at Catholic Central High School in London, Ont. He took over as head coach of the Crusaders in 2010. During those years, he also worked with the London Beefeaters, a junior team in the Ontario Football Conference, and at the university level with the Western Mustangs.

“The biggest reason I agreed to come to Concordia is Mickey Donovan,” Circelli said. “Working with him was an opportunity I couldn’t pass up.

“I wanted to come back and coach at the university level. It’s something I’m passionate about. I want the players to have all the positive experiences I did playing university football.

“Also, I think it’s important to have a good coach who cares and who puts the time in. That’s what I’m here to do.”

The Stingers will report to training camp for orientation on Aug. 12. The team will travel to Kingston, Ont. to play a preseason game versus the Queen’s Gaels on Aug. 24.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
