CIS – AUS players of the week (5): Socholotiuk, Ceasar, and Yorke named

Running back Jordan Socholotiuk of the St. Francis Xavier X-Men is the Atlantic University Sport football offensive player of the week for the week ending Oct. 9, 2016.

A third-year human kinetics student from Waterford, Ont., Socholotiuk earned Subway player of the game honours Friday as StFX topped Acadia 42-21 in Antigonish, N.S.

He rushed for 196 yards on 17 carries, averaging 11.5 yards/carry, including a 70-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter. His stats also included two receptions for two yards.

Socholotiuk currently leads the AUS in rushing, averaging 119.2 yards per game and 5.9 yards per carry. He is second in the conference in all-purpose yards with 131.2 per game.

Position: Defensive End

Defensive end Jadarius Ceasar of the Saint Mary’s Huskies is the Atlantic University Sport football defensive player of the week.

A first-year arts student from Tuscaloosa, Alabama, Ceasar led the Huskies defence with eight tacklesβ€”five solo and six assistedβ€”as Saint Mary’s downed Mount Allison 29-21 in Halifax. Of these, 3.5 were tackles for a loss of 10 total yards. This also included a sack for a loss of six yards.

Ceasar’s stats also included one pass break up and a fumble recovery.


Special Teams Player of the Week

Name: Idahosa Yorke
University: Mount Allison Mounties
Position: Kick Returner
Hometown: Bomanville, Ont.
Year of eligibility: Second
Academic program: BA History
Height and weight: 5’7”, 162lbs

Mount Allison kick returner Idahosa Yorke has been named the AUS football special teams player of the week.

Yorke, a second-year history student from Bowmanville, Ont., returned eight punts for 121 yards and a touchdown in Friday night’s 29-21 road loss to the Saint Mary’s Huskies.

The reigning AUS special teams player of the year returned a punt 88 yards for a major to open the scoring in the first quarter, his second career punt return touchdown. Β He also added a 13-yard kickoff return to finish with 134 all-purpose yards in the game.

Through five games, Yorke is currently averaging 8.8 yards per punt return 15.4 yards per kickoff return.
