CIS Players of the week (OUA): Rowe, Randazzo, Fraser-Greene

The following athletes have been named Ontario University Athletics (OUA) Football Players of the Week for the period ending September 26, 2016.

OFFENCE: Jayde Rowe (Scarborough, Ont.) – 4th yr. – Carleton

Coming off a record setting weekend, Carleton Ravens running back Jayde Rowe (Scarborough, Ont.) has been named OUA Offensive Player of the Week for the second time this season.

Rowe, a fourth-year history major, had 21 carries for 258 yards to establish a new Ravens record for most rushing yards in a single game.

The Scarborough, Ont. native found the endzone twice and also had one reception for 13 yards as the Ravens defeated the York Lions 50-7.

The 5’10”, 219 lbs running back has now rushed for 160 yards or more in three of his last four games to lead CIS with 713 yards rushing.

Rowe and the Ravens will look to stretch their win streak over the rival Gee-Gees to three games when they face off against uOttawa in the Panda Game on Saturday.  Kickoff is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. and can be seen live, coast-to-coast on City.

DEFENCE: Sam Randazzo (Hamilton, Ont.) – 5th yr. – Ottawa

University of Ottawa defensive end Sam Randazzo (Hamilton, Ont.) has been named OUA Defensive Player of the Week after he made life miserable for the Windsor Lancers.

Randazzo, fifth year theatre major, had 3.5 total tackles and a pair of sacks in a 41-18 Gee-Gees victory over the Lancers.

The Hamilton, Ont. native also forced and recovered a fumble, while adding two tackles for a loss of 19 yards.

Randazzo, a 6’2” defensive end, ranks second in OUA in both sacks (4.5) and sack yards (33).

Next up, Randazzo and the Gee-Gees will hope to #FreePedro as they take on the crosstown rival Carleton Ravens in the Panda Game this Saturday.  Kickoff is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. and can be seen live, coast-to-coast on City.

SPECIAL TEAMS: Nicholas Fraser-Greene (Mississauga, Ont.) – 2nd yr. – Queen’s

The Queen’s Gaels picked up their first win at the revitalized Richardson Stadium on Saturday thanks to a strong special teams performance from defensive back Nicholas Fraser-Greene (Missisauga, Ont.).

Fraser-Greene, a second-year sociology student-athlete, returned nine punts for 66 yards in the Gaels 20-5 win against the visiting Varsity Blues.

The Mississauga, Ont. native had a hand in the historic first touchdown at the new stadium as his 13-yard return eventually led to Eric Dodwell’s 3 yard run in the second quarter.

In four games this season, the 5’10”, 176 lbs punt return specialist is averaging 7.1 yards per return.

Fraser-Greene and the Gaels are back in action Saturday when they travel to Waterloo to take on the Warriors.
