CIS recap: Sherbrooke shuts down York

The Vert & Or made short work of the York Lions by a score of 44-3 Saturday afternoon at the stadium of the University of Sherbrooke.

 

Both teams were slow to move the football early in the game andĀ It was not until the last moments of the second quarter that theĀ first touchdown wasĀ registered. TheĀ Vert & Or, who scored on a nice pass from Bourque St-Hilaire to FrĆ©dĆ©rick Caron veteran wide receiver.

“The guys in the second unit, we were ready and we wanted to do well. We managed to score a lot of points and we have done our job collectively. We have veterans who are forcing us to play well in front and it is for the benefit of the team,” said Gabriel Polan after the game, very humble about his offensive contribution.

“I wanted to show what I could do when they give me the ball. I was ready and I’m happy with my game and how I handled my rehearsal. Our receivers have also made big plays. The two veteran quarterbacks had the chance to play”, rejoiced for his part Alexander Jacob Michaud.

The fifth-year pivot Mathieu Loranger has indeed enjoyed the second half of the fourth quarter to lead the attack Vert & Or.

The first-year player Guillaume Conraud-Ares took advantage of every chance to shine especially as a returner.Ā He will be a newcomer to watch.

The only points of the opponents were scored in the first quarter on a 28-yard field goal byĀ kicker Nick Naylor.

“We will have difficult choices to make in the coming days and we look forward to seeing the film. Although we did not score much in the first half, Jean-Christophe and the first unit showed greatĀ things. We felt in the second quarter we would have a physical advantage over them in the running gmae. We then used the passing game and it worked really well,” said offensive coordinator Vert & Or, Mathieu Pronovost.

The two teams faced off for the first time in their history and willĀ again in late August 2017, this time at the home of the Lions in Toronto.

SherbrookesĀ first regular season game will take place at Coulter Field at Bishop’s University Gaiters, next Saturday, September 3 to 19 h. This will be the 11th edition of the Cup of the Mayor of Sherbrooke.

The home opener of the Vert & Or is scheduled for Saturday, September 10 at 16 pm, against the Redmen, McGill University.
