CISAA: St. Michael’s College 2012 Season Preview

The St. Michaelā€™s College Kerry Blues hope to be the team to beat this year in the CISAA division.

The competition will be tough as power houses St. Andrewā€™s College and Upper Canada College will be the teams to beat this season. In fact, the three were in a three way tie for first place at the end of the regular season with a 4-1 record. St. Michaelā€™s College has always had a competitive team and they are continuously contenders for not only the CISAA championship, but for the coveted Metro Bowl as well.

For those who may not know the Metro Bowl is a championship for all teams who play in the Greater Toronto Area. This includes teams from the York Region Athletic Association, the Lake Ontario Secondary School Association and the Toronto District Secondary School Association. The Kerry Blues have won the Metro Bowl five times during the last decade.Ā Ā In total the school has made nine Metro Bowl appearances and has won seven times.

As mentioned earlier, last season the Kerry Blues had a 4-1 record and reached the semi-finals. Unfortunately, the team lost a heartbreaking semi-final game against St. Andrewā€™s College by a score of 51-7. It was a great year for the Kerry Blues as they were led by quarterback Max Townsend, running back Frank Trentadue and wide receiver Kevin Collins.Ā Ā Defensively Josh Jordan Matt Purdy and Luca Breda led the team in tackles and assisted tackles.

Next year look for WR Kevin Collins, WR/DB SImon Chang and Michael Moore to be contributors to next year’s squad. There are many others who will also be important to the Kerry Blues such as LB Luca Zuliani and kicker/WR Anthony Lafrate just to name a few.

This season head coach Frank Trentadue hopes for more of the same success from last year. He especially hopes to ā€œincrease awareness of the St. Michaelā€™s football program, and provide a competitive football experience for the playersā€.

The 2012 season will start with the same six teams as it did last season. The chances for another three way tie for first are big, as many teams hope to have successful years. The Kerry Blues will start their 2012 campaign against Villanova College at Villanova. Look for the Kerry Blues to come out of the gate with a bang, as they have the ability to defeat any team in the CISAA.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
