CISAA: St. Michael’s Run Over Ashbury

The St. Michael’s College Kerry Blues defeated the Ashbury Colts last Saturday, 39-14.
The cold rainy weather did nothing to phase the Kerry Blues as they were able to keep the Colts at bay. It was another big win for the Kerry Blues as they are looking to stay in the top three of CISAA with a 2-1 record.
The Kerry Blues were able to keep the Colts inside their own half of the field for the majority of the game. The Colts struggled getting past the strong Kerry Blues defense. They did have a couple of long possessions that accumulated into touchdowns thanks to a number of St. Michael’s penalties. During the first half an entire Ashbury possession was moved up the field thanks to unsportsmanlike type penalties. Penalties hurt St. Michael’s offense as well. Several huge gains were ruined by penalties which brought the ball back to the original line of scrimmage.
The small but scrappy Colts from Ottawa came into Toronto with a 1-1 record hoping to get the win. However, the Kerry Blues led by running back Simon Chang used their strong running game to overpower the Colts. Before the first half ended, no. 33 Chang had scored three touchdowns. The half ended with the Kerry Blues up 22-0.
Great defensive plays by Matt Freibauer and Mike Moore helped keep Ashbury in their own part of the field.  Receiving was led by senior Kevin Collins, while the running game starred Simon Chang. Other standouts included no. 24 Mark Del Fatti and no. 93 Matt Freibauer just to name a few.
Ashbury’s next game will be against the last place Trinity Bears. The game will give the Colts an opportunity to get a 2-2 record and stay in playoff contention. That game will take place at 1:00PM this Sunday at Ashbury.
St. Michael’s will have a tough test this Friday when they play Upper Canada College at 6:00PM at St. Michael’s College. The teams are tied in the standing 2-1, and this game will give one team a second place spot in the standings. UCC is looking forward to the match saying that, “It is always great to play St. Michael’s. They are always competitive and traditionally strong”. It should be a great game under the Friday night lights.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
