CISAA: Upper Canada College Blues Preview

The Upper Canada College Blues have always had one of the best varsity football teams in the CISAA division, and this year is no different.

Last year UCC reached the top of the CISAA standings with a 4-1 record, but lost in the CISAA championship finals 27-22 to St. Andrew’s College. In fact, the only team that UCC lost to all of last season was St. Andrew’s College.

It was a hard fought year for UCC as injuries brought the team’s roster from 41-30 players. Their team was also a “young” squad with some inexperienced players. However, the team rallied in spite of the difficulties and were led by Pelle Jorgen who played not only running back, but also played as a slot back for both the special teams and defense. The offense was led by quarterback Seamus Powers. Powers graduated in the spring and committed to Bowdoin College in the NCAA Division Three.

The team will be led once again by Pelle Jorgen as he will return to play his senior season with the Blues after playing for Team Ontario-East as well as the Canada Cup all-star team earlier in the year. Another player who is sure to make a positive impact on the Blues will be RB Chris Amoah, who was on the 19-under team Canada that won gold this summer at the IFAF championship. Last but certainly not least, there is Thomas Kirouac who is ranked 18th among the best long snappers a part of the 2013 draft class, with an average snap time of 0.87 seconds. The pedigree of this team is undeniable and should become the team to beat this season.

The Upper Canada College Blues remain confident that they will have yet another winning season and they have every reason to be so. The squad from UCC has great players come through their doors every year, and it is sure to be yet another exciting season.

The 2012 regular season will open against Trinity College School for their first away game.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
