CJFL – BCFC GOW (2): Rams visit Broncos

he BCFC Game of the Week will feature a rematch of the semi-final from a year ago as the Kamloops Broncos (1-0) host the Langley Rams (0-1).

Last season the Rams held onto a 48-46 victory on route to their second BCFC title in three seasons.

In Week 1 the Broncos were an unstoppable machine, throwing nine touchdown passes and collected 700 yards of total offence beating the Valley Huskers 72-17.  Quarterback Steve Schuweiler was named the Offensive Player of the Week following his 13 of 19 performance throwing for 467 yards and seven touchdowns.  His main target was Derek Yachison who hauled in five passes for 191 yards and four majors.

The Rams have an arguably better secondary and pass rush then the Huskers.  Returners Ben Sharpe, John Beckerleg and Marcus Brown will stay will Yachison and Devin Csincsa who caught four balls for 160 yards and two majors last weekend.

Defensive lineman Brock Gowanlock was named the Defensive Player of the Week with four sacks and the always dangerous Jacob Patko and Alex Agnoletto will try and slow the Broncos run game.

On the other side of the ball the Broncos defence will be tested by the Rams offence.  Led by Nathan Lund and Jordon Traversy the Rams have the ability to pound away at the d-line and wear them down.  Last week the Raiders did a great job to hold them to just 72 yards, film the Broncos will be watching.

The Rams passing attack collected 284 yards as quarterback Devoun Hallums played his first junior game.  Interestingly the Rams backfield of Lund and Traversy caught touchdown passes.

In the secondary the Broncos will need Derek Trager, Chis Rosa and Kieran Muir to be sharp and keep the Rams speedy receivers in front of them.  Michael Ochoa will once again be the key for the Broncos in the middle.  Last week he had a game high five tackles will be responsible to stop the Rams running attack.

If this game comes down to kicking, both teams have rookie kickers.  Last week James Barnsley of the Broncos was 1 for 2 in field goals, while Brian Hope of the Rams missed his only attempt from 25 yards.

This will be the first trip to Kamloops for the Rams since 2011.  With the unbalanced schedule the last four meetings have all been in Langley.  The Rams claimed a 28-10 win the last time they played in Kamloops.

All eyes will be on this Game of the Week, as the lone Sunday match-up. Kick-off from Hillside Stadium is scheduled for 7:00pm.
