CJFL: BCFC week 4 in review

Three lopsided scores in the Week 4 saw the three “Rs” win again, as the Rams, Raiders and Rebels recorded their third victories.Posted Image

In what seemingly would have been the Game of the Week turned into a blowout as the Langley Rams beat the Okanagan 34-3.

The Rams would use a very balanced attack rushing for 197 yards, while passing for 196.

On the ground Daniel Xavier rushed a game high 16 times for 83 yards to lead the charge while Nick Downey ran three reverses for 40 yards.

The “McKinnon Career Coaching Player of the Game” was quarterback Greg Bowcott who finished 14 of 21 for 196 yards and two touchdowns.  He would find Malcolm Williams five times for 82 yards and one touchdown, while Michael Patko caught four balls for 50 yards and a major.  Bowcott also rushed five times for 42 yards and a touchdown.

Defensively the Rams forced two Sun turnovers as Jordan Linnen intercepted a pass for a 62 yard pick six.  Joe Lester also picked off a pass.  Daniel Sharpe, Evan Foster and Adam Konar each had three tackles.

The Rams (3-0-1) will host the Kamloops Broncos (1-3) following the Labour Day bye.

The Okanagan Sun dropped their second straight as the offense compiled just 215 total yards.

Rookie quarterback Cam Bedore finished 10 of 26 yards for 112 yards and threw two picks.  His favourite receiver was Bobby Davis who caught five passes for 52 yards, while Kyle Patchell hauled in four passes for 59 yards.

On the ground the Sun were led by Robert Giorno who carried 11 times for 51 yards.  Bedore scrambled seven times for 39 yards.

The only scoring the Sun would tally was a 17 yard field goal from new kicker Dan Ferrier.

Defensively Jack Rush made five bone rattling tackles and one special teams tackle, while Robbie Yochim also compiled five tackles.

However the highlight for the defense came in the first quarter when Steven Doege set a new CJFL record for sacks. He would finish with 1.5 on the evening, giving him 37.5 over his three year career.  The old mark was set by Dale Solie who played with Saskatoon Hilltops from 1985-1989.

Following the Labour Day bye the Sun (1-3) will host the Westshore Rebels (3-1).

Also on Saturday night the Vancouver Island Raiders kept pace with the Rams with a 59-17 victory over the Kamloops Broncos.

Raiders quarterback and the “McKinnon Career Coaching Player of the Game” Jordan Yantz would finish 20 of 27 for 398 yards and set a new club record, six touchdown passes.  He becomes the first quarterback ever to throw for more than 100 touchdowns, with a total of 104 and six games to go in the season.Posted Image

Ten different receivers caught passes on Saturday night as Matt Sawyer led the way with five catches for 69 yards and two touchdowns.  Whitman Tomuziak made two catches for 109 yards highlighted by a 99 yard touchdown.  Dustin Pedersen, Arthur Fabbro and Michael Schaper also caught touchdown passes.

On the ground Ashton Galloway rushed six times for 74 yards.  Taylor Flavel and Nathan Berg scored majors on the ground.

The Raiders defense would force three turnovers as Tremain Apperley and Ash Gayat made fumble recoveries while Ariel Fabbro picked off a pass.  Gayat also recorded 2.5 sacks.

The Raiders (3-0-1) will host the Chilliwack Huskers (0-4) after the bye.

The Kamloops Broncos were frustrated all night long recording just 10 yards on the ground in their third straight loss.

Mike McMaster rushed eight times against his former team for seven yards and a touchdown.

Quarterback Jesse Neufeld would complete 14 of 25 for 161 yards and a major, while back up Steve Schuweiller was four of six for 57 yards.  Nine different Broncos caught passes including Derek Yachison who had a game high seven catches for 84 yards and a major.

The Broncos defense was led by Shayne Arthurs and Chris Rosa with five tackles each.  Jacob Palmarin jumped on a fumble for the Broncos only takeaway.

The Broncos (1-3) will head to Langley following the bye for a date with the Rams (3-0-1).

The lone Sunday game in the BCFC saw the hometown Westshore Rebels record the first shutout of the 2012 season with a 58-0 blowout of the Chilliwack Huskers.Posted Image

The Rebels would record 608 offensive yards, including 336 yards on the ground.  Greg Morris was brilliant rushing 13 times for 264 yards and four touchdowns.  He would be named the “McKinnon Career Coaching Player of the Game.”

Through the air, quarterback Mark Black finished 14 of 24 for 286 yards and two touchdowns.  He would hit Catlyn Todorovich four times for 104 yards and a major.  Vinnie Cannata made two catches for 56 yards and a touchdown.

Kicker Quinn Van Gylswyk was two of three in field goals, hitting from 47 and 32 yards out.

Defensively the Rebels recorded seven sacks led by Wyatt Gray who had three of them.   Nicholas Swaby recorded two sacks while Chris Pastro had 1.5.  Braeden Swatez picked off a pass.

The Rebels (3-1) will visit the Okanagan Sun (1-3) following the bye.

The Chilliwack Huskers had a difficult day, recording just 37 offensive net yards. Quarterback Braden Churley finished three of 11 for 16 yards.

On the ground the Huskers rushed for 34 yards as Churley had a team high 25 yards, while Jamal Hamilton carried four times for 15 yards.

Defensively the Huskers recorded three turnovers as Brandon Vickers and Kris Bush jumped on fumbles while Tyson Plain picked off a pass.  Dan Coffin and Plain each had four tackles.

The Huskers (0-4) will travel to Nanaimo to face the Raiders after the bye (3-0-1).
