Two Burlington rookies scored and put the first points on the board for the Braves. Quarterback, Mack Blewett who played for the Saint Mary’s University Huskies last year, scored the first touchdown from the one-yard line with five minutes left in the first quarter. Dustin DeGeorgis kicked the convert, and a field goal on the next possession. He was perfect on converts for the night. Running back Alex McFarlane ran almost 70 yards to score the second major in the first half. Jason Diston picked up a fumble on the kick-off to score the third TD before the end of the second quarter. The first half ended with the score 24-7.
The Braves kept up the pressure in the second half and led 38-19 mid-way through the fourth quarter. Diston picked up another fumble recovery and Shane Smiley had an interception. Veteran wide receivers Diston, Brody Essery, and rookie Cameron Freelen caught touchdown passes. Freelen made good on a two-point conversion as well.
The Braves home opener is against the Twin Cities Predators this Saturday at Nelson Stadium, kick off 7:00 p.m. Game sponsor CHCH television will be on hand with give aways to the fans. The Predators are 0-1 after losing to The Windsor AKO Fratmen last Saturday.
