CJFL: Edmonton Huskies announce new coaches to staff

The Edmonton Huskies are pleased to announce the following coaching changes for 2016.  A complete coaching staff announcement will be made in early January 2016.

Rick Walters – Offensive Coordinator/Quarterbacks – Coach Walters returns to the Huskies after spending the last three years as Offensive Coordinator for the University of Alberta Golden Bears.  In 2015, under Coach Walters’ tutelage, the U of A offense broke numerous program records and finished sixth in the CIS in offensive production.  Prior to working with the Bears Coach Walters was the Head Coach of the Huskies for two years.  Coach Walters is an 11 year CFL veteran playing for the Saskatchewan Roughriders and the Edmonton Eskimos, winning a Grey Cup with the Edmonton Eskimos in 2003.  Coach Walter’s passion for excellence, organization, and exciting offensive philosophy will provide a great spark to the offense in 2016.

Jeff Tobert – Linebackers/Front Seven – Coach Tobert returns to the Huskies after spending the last 22 years coaching high school football for Ross Shepard, Jasper Place, and M.E. Lazerte.  Before becoming a high school football coach, Coach Tobert was a linebacker coach for the Huskies.  Coach Tobert played 5 years for the University of Alberta Golden Bears prior to entering coaching.  Coach Tobert brings his great communication and football knowledge to the Huskies and will be an asset to the defensive coaching staff.

Nigel Amenu-Tekka – Running Backs –  Another member of the staff returns to the fold as Coach Amenu-Tekka will  be working with the running backs.  Coach Amenu-Tekka coached running backs and assisted with special teams for one year after he completed a 5 year career as a player with the University of Alberta Golden Bears.  He has been coaching high school football for the past 6 years working at Leduc High School and McNally Composite High School where he has been the position coach for the past two Halliburton winners.  Coach Amenu-Tekka’s soft spoken passion for football and developing young men on and off the field will be an asset for the club.
