CJFL: Hilltops win 4th straight PFC title

The Saskatoon Hilltops win their fourth straight Prairies title

The Saskatoon Hilltops were without arguably their biggest offensive weapon in running back Logan Fischer, but were still able to get past the Regina Thunder in the Prairie Conference final on Sunday 36-24

The Hilltops offensive line was again the determining factor allowing the ground game to gather 297 yards on 35 carries. Without Fischer the Hilltops turned to third year running back Adam Machart and he was simply outstanding with 22 carries for 206 yards and the game’s opening touchdown sprinting 48 yards to the endzone.

The Hilltops scored four rushing touchdowns as Josh Ewanchyna, Colin Stumborg and Garth Knittig also got on the scoresheet.

Quarterback Jordan Walls completed 11 passes for 114 yards, most of them for short yardage. His longest completion was 26 yards.

Defensively they held off a second half surge by the Thunder and were able to collect three sacks. Logan Bitz and the Schnitzler brothers got to the quarterback and veteran James Vause picked off a pass.

As for the Thunder when their ground game wasn’t there they turned to quarterback Sawyer Buettner. For the most part he delivered completing 29 passes for 325 yards and threw touchdown passes to Levi Paul and Lee Brown. Paul had a game high nine receptions for 86 yards.

Running back Victor St Pierre-Laviolette carried 15 times for 65 yards and scored on a one yard touchdown plunge.

The win is the fourth straight for the Hilltops in the Prairie Conference Final and they have now won 11 straight playoff games. They will host the VI Raiders, the BC Conference champions on Sunday afternoon in the CJFL National Semi-Final. The winner heads to Ontario for the 110th Canadian Bowl on November 11th.
