CJFL, OFC, Burlington Braves saddened by loss of Stewart MacDonald

The Burlington Braves Football Club and Alumni are saddened to announce the passing of Stewart MacDonald earlier today in Dundas, Ontario.

1965 Stew joined the Burlington Braves Football Club as a willing worker. In 1968 Stew along with his family were instrumental in the construction of the newly named, Al Lambert Fieldhouse, which now stands at the east end of Nelson Stadium. His family, at the time did not realize that it would become his home away from home for many years to come. Since then and up until recently, Stew works tirelessly as a strong supporter of Junior Football here in Burlington. For many years there wasn’t a night that went by where you would not find Stew in the clubhouse where he was assisting players with equipment, registering players, sitting in on committee meetings or chairing the monthly Board of Directors meetings as the Braves President. Stew travelled across the country for the betterment of The Burlington Braves Organization.

He served as the Assistant Commissioner of the CJFL on two occasions, from 1979 to 1982 and from 1989 to 1991.

In 1988 the Canadian Junior Football League honoured him with a Life Time Member Award.
Stewart MacDonald set the standard for all the volunteers that followed him.

Attached in the photo is Carrie Irish with Stew when he served as Honorary Game Day Chairman of the 2008 Canadian Bowl held in Burlington.

He will certainly be missed by The Braves Organization.

At Stew’s request there will be no visitation or funeral service.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
