CJFL: Okanagan Sun fire national coach of the year winner McCall

The CJFL continues to have some ‘interesting’ things happen within their league. Fight in the stands with players, coach suspended for not allowing CCES immediate access to test players, a player from that same team testing positive for cocaine use and now the CJFL coach of the year gets fired. Here is the statement from Okangan Sun president Bill Long.

Statement from Okanagan Sun President Bill Long

The Okanagan Sun Football Club regrettably announce that Peter McCall will not return as Head Coach for the 2011 season

Being the coach of a Canadian Junior football team is an very demanding position. It requires commitment 12 months of the year and it is not just the things that occur on the practice field that make a good coach, or define that commitment.

In order for the Okanagan Sun to return to being a championship team, we need our Head Coach to to be a leader in doing whatever it takes to get the best product on the field.

After considering all the information, and discussing this at length with Peter McCall, the Board of Directors decided that this organization needed to make a change.

It was by no means an easy decision, but I feel comfortable that the decision of the Board was the correct action to take. The 17 members of the 2011 Board of Directors have a combined 168 years experience with this team. They take their role seriously, and they are a knowledgeable and thoughtful group.

Our fans and players can rest assured that we explored this situation thoroughly, and looked at other options, but we made the decision with the interests of the team our primary concern.

We wish Peter all the best in the future.
