CJFL: Players of the week OFC, PFC, BCFC

Here are the players of the week in each conference of the Canadian Junior Football League (CJFL):

BCFC PLAYERS OF THE WEEK:


The British Columbia Football Conference is proud to announce their “BC Lions Players of the Week” for Week 10.
The Vancouver Island Raiders stayed undefeated on Saturday after a commanding victory over the Westshore Rebels. The Raiders offense scored 57 points and the “BC Lions Offensive Player of the Week” played a large role. Receiver Michael Schaper made four catches, all for touchdowns and compiled 155 yards. His longest touchdown catch and run was 72 yards. It’s the second time this season Schaper has won this award.
The Chilliwack Huskers finally ended their drought and won their first game since the 2009 season. The Huskers defence was led by the “BC Lions Defensive Player of the Week,” Kris Bush. The defensive back would make five solo tackles, one assist and two key interceptions. It’s the first defensive award for the Huskers this season.
For the third consecutive week the “BC Lions Special Teams Player of the Week” is Vancouver Island Raiders kicker Mark Mueller. The veteran was responsible for 13 of the Raiders 57 points, hitting two field goals from28 and 17 yards out. He was a perfect seven for seven in converts. Mueller would also make four punts for 158 yards and seven kickoffs traveling 382 yards.

OFFENSE-ASHER HASTINGS-REGINA THUNDER
Hastings was the driving force in the Thunder’s 24-21 upset over the previously undefeated Calgary Colts at McMahon Stadium on October 14. Hastings held a hot hand as he completed 29 of 36 passes for 327 yards, passing for 3 touchdowns in the win. The 3rdtouchdown pass of the day to Will Heward came with only 17 seconds left vaulted the Thunder to the title tilt.
DEFENSE-MICHAEL WALDRON-SASKATOON HILLTOPS
The 4th-year defensive back was an integral part in his team’s 42-11 semi-final victory over Edmonton. He recorded 2 of Saskatoon’s 6 interceptions on the day as the defense forced the Wildcats to turn the ball over 11 times. He added 4 solo tackles, assisted on 2 other stops and forced a fumble. Waldron had 20 points in the game.
SPECIAL TEAMS-ZACH SCHMIDT-SASKATOON HILLTOPS
The 3rd-year kicker/punter made good on 2 of 3 field goals in the Hilltops 42-11 semi-final victory over the Edmonton Wildcats, connecting from 15 & 11 yards. Schmidt punted 12 times in the contest, averaging 38.5 yards per punt. His longest travelled 53 yards.
OFC PLAYERS OF THE WEEK:

Offensive: #8 Ryan Kotar – RB – Hamilton Hurricanes
23 rushes for 206 yards
Ryan Kotar, 3rd Year RB led a balanced Hurricanes offensive attack in the OFC Final. Playing in his third consecutive OFC Final, the financial planning student at Mohawk College had a huge day with 23 rushes for 206 yards. The former Bishop Ryan HS grad had a terrific season rushing the football as he led the OFC in rushing with 1270 yards and 9 TD’s in the regular season and playoffs combined.
Defensive: #30 Kevin Pera – LB – London Beefeaters
8 Solo Tackles, 2 assisted tackles, 18 Def. Points
Kevin Pera, 2nd Year LB from Laurier SS in London led the Beefeaters’ defense to their first ever OFC Championship. Pera had a great day tackling as he led the defense with 8 solo tackles and 2 assisted tackles amassing 18 defensive points. Pera and the Beefeaters will look to earn their first ever berth in the Canadian Bowl when they travel to Saskatchewan for the Jostens Cup on Saturday October 27 to play the winner of Regina Thunder and Saskatoon Hilltops.
Special Teams: #80 Josh Woodman – WR – London Beefeaters
PR: 6 for 120 and 1 TD (82 yards) and 1 Missed FG Return for 20 yards
Josh Woodman, 2nd Year WR led the Beefeaters to their biggest win of the season and their first ever OFC Championship. The Arts student at UWO had 6 punt returns for 120 yards and scored on an 82-yard return in the fourth quarter. The former Ursuline Pines grad will try to lead the Beefeaters to their first ever berth in the Canadian Bowl when they travel to Saskatchewan to play the winner of the Regina Thunder and Saskatoon Hilltops in the Jostens Cup on Saturday October 27.
