CJFL Players of the Week

The Canadian Junior Football League has announced the Players of the Week for the Week of September 8th.

CJFL Offensive POW

PFC – Week 4

Running Back #22 Levon Hawreliak – Edmonton Wildcats
The Edmonton Wildcats would get a sense of payback last weekend after beating their crosstown rivals, the Edmonton Huskies 50-18, after a Week 1 loss.Β  The Wildcats would run ramped tallying 690 yards offensively, most of which by the PFC Offensive Player of the Week, running back Levon Hawreliak.Β  He would gain 353 yards on 29 carries and scored three touchdowns.Β  The second year running back fell two yards short of the PFC single game record, set last season by teammate Jordan Samoil.

BCFC – Week 7

Running Back #5 Kyle Albertini – Langley Rams
The Langley Rams continued their dominance of the Westshore Rebels this past weekend with a 49-17 victory at home.Β  The Rams would use the run game to perfection as Kyle Albertini carried the load with 22 carries for 215 yards, an average of 9.7 yards a carry.Β Β Β  The third year rusher would also score two touchdowns, naming him the β€œBC Lions Offensive Player of the Game.”

OFC – Week 4

Quarterback #6 Kyle Sewell – Hamilton Hurricanes
Leading his first place Hamilton Hurricanes football team to a 36-3 victory over the previously unbeaten Windsor AKO Fratmen, QB #6 Kyle Sewell had a solid performance by scoring one rushing touchdown and throwing 16 for 33 and 208 yards, which included zero interceptions and two touchdown passes, earning Kyle the honours of Week 4 OFC Offensive Player of the Week. Kyle is 21-years old and is a second year player on the Hurricanes. According to the Hurricanes organization, Kyle has definitely asserted himself as the starting quarterback. He plays with confidence and makes great reads. During the game against the Fratmen, Kyle avoided turnovers and stood in the pocket against a very strong blitzing team.

PFC – Week 4

Defensive Back #27 Chris Tunnicliffe – Regina Thunder
The Regina Thunder surprised a number of football minds across the country over the weekend with a stunning 29-28 victory in Saskatoon over the Hilltops.Β  The Thunder defense, simply played great in the late stages, including stopping the Hilltops on a third and short which would lead to the game winning score.Β  The Thunder β€œD” was led by the PFC Defensive Player of the Week Chris Tunnicliffe.Β  He would lead the club with five solo tackles, one assist and would intercept a pass.

BCFC – Week 7

Linebacker #88 Brody Slagman – Valley Huskers
The closest game of the weekend was in Chilliwack as the visiting Kamloops Broncos defeated the Valley Huskers in a tight 25-20 game.Β  The Huskers defense was led by the β€œBC Lions Defensive Player of the Game,” Brody Slagman.Β  The Red Deer native would recover a fumble and rumble 57 yards for a touchdown, lead the club with seven solo tackles, had one assist and two quarterback sacks.Β  It’s the second time this season Slagman has won this award.

OFC – Week 4

Defensive Back #3 Jacob Barry – Hamilton Hurricanes
Helping his Hamilton Hurricanes football team defeat the Windsor AKO Fratmen by a score of 36-3, DB #3 Jacob Barry had a dominant performance on defense, as he racked up an impressive 18 points, which consisted of seven tackles and one interception resulting in a touchdown, earning Jacob the honours of Week 4 OFC Defensive Player of the Week. Jacob is 21-years old and is currently in his final year with the Hurricanes. According to the Hurricanes organization, Jacob is the kind of player that the coaches have all learned to rely on. He knows the assignments of the entire defence, and he’s had a great first half of the season. Jacob is a major reason why the Hurricanes defense hasn’t given up more than one touchdown in their last three games.

PFC – Week 4

One of the lone bright spots for the Edmonton Huskies in their 50-18 loss to the Wildcats was kicker Jonathan Heidebrecht.Β Β  Of the 18 points the Huskies scored he would be responsible for 12 of them.Β  He would connect on a 14 yard field goal, miss a 48 yarder, but did record a single.Β  The Camrose native would account for two converts.Β  Then with 20 seconds to go Heidebrecht would recover one of his own kicks and returned it for a touchdown.Β Β Β  He would punt eight times, netting 250 yards, while his four kickoffs, travelled 163 net yards.Β  He is the PFC Special Teams Player of the Week.

BCFC – Week 7

Kicker #30 Steve Thomas – Langley Rams
The Langley Rams would score another 49 points over the weekend and now lead the BCFC with 291 points scored.Β  Kicker Steve Thomas would account for 13 of those 49 points, hitting field goals from 12 and 20 yards out, and was a perfect six for six in converts.Β  The β€œBC Lions Special Teams Player of the Week” also compiled seven kickoffs for 415 yards, averaging 59.3 yards a kick and recorded a single.Β  His lone punt traveled just 19 yards.Β  This is the second time this season Thomas has won this award.

OFC – Week 4

Kicker/Punter #10 Bobby Frame – Hamilton Hurricanes
Helping to lead his team to a stunning victory over the Windsor AKO Fratmen by a convincing score of 36-3, K/P #10 Bobby Frame continued to showcase his dominance, as he grossed 386 yards off of nine punts (long 51), and 466 yards off of eight kick-offs (long 70). Bobby also went 5-for-5 on single point conversions with an additional single point added for a combined total of six points on the day. Bobby is only 19-years old and is a first year player with the Hurricanes. According to the Hurricanes organization, Bobby has been a real difference maker in his rookie season. He can change field position in the Hurricanes favour with one kick. Even though he’s a special teams athlete, Bobby is already considered as one of the league’s best offensive weapons.
