Langford – Victoria’s Westshore Rebels have announced that Shane Beatty will be joining their coaching staff as assistant head coach, strength coach, and director of player development. Beatty was most recently the head coach of the Okanagan Sun, whom he recently parted ways with, after three successful seasons with the team.

Beatty brings decades of coaching and athletic training experience to the Rebels. His resume includes twenty-three years of coaching experience at the university level in the U.S., in a wide variety of roles. In his coaching career, Beatty has served as recruiting coordinator and assistant coach at Reedley College, defensive coordinator and head coach at West Virginia Tech, assistant director of football operations at Iowa State, and defensive coordinator and strength coach at the College of Sequoias. Beatty has also trained high level athletes outside of football, including high school and collegiate athletes, wrestlers, Olympic sprinters, and pro golfers. During his three seasons as head coach of the Okanagan Sun, Beatty was awarded CJFL Coach of the Year twice, and led the team to a BCFC championship in 2015. Beatty is also a Rebels alumni; he played for the team as a linebacker in 1988 and 1989.

Beatty is excited for the opportunity to join the Rebels, and looks forward to working with Rebels head coach JC Boice. “I truly believe working for JC will be an incredible experience,” said Beatty. “JC’s knowledge is second to none and I believe together we can establish a dominant program.”

Boice believes Beatty’s arrival is an important step forward for the Rebels. “I am extremely excited to have a coach of Shane Beatty’s calibre joining us,” said Boice. “He is a lightning rod wherever he has coached and he will be a catalyst to further accelerate the Rebel’s rise to the top of the BCFC.

“After meeting with the Rebels president (Doug Kobayashi), I am one-hundred percent certain we are in good hands,” added Beatty. “It’s time to rock the Rebel Red!”

Athletic Development Program

Boice and Beatty have also announced that they will be starting a football specific athlete development program in Victoria and Westshore. The program will start on March 1st.
